Helen George has been a firm fixture on Call the Midwife since 2012. The actress has proved phenomenally popular in the role of Beatrix ‘Trixie’ Franklin, who has been a key part of the BBC series over the years. Some viewers are curious to know more about the actress’ life away from the long-running drama.

How old is Call the Midwife star Helen George?

Helen was born on June 19, 1984 in Harborne, Birmingham which makes her 38.

Her mother was a social worker and her father was a political science professor.

She attended the Royal Academy of Music after attending the Birmingham Royal Ballet as a junior associate.

Some of her early roles before Call the Midwife include Hollyoaks, Hotel Babylon, Doctors and The Three Musketeers.

Call the Midwife is the biggest role for Helen to date with the actress also starring in short film The Monster, Red Dwarf, Nativity Rocks! and D.I. Ray.

She has also appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2015 when she was partnered with Aljaž Skorjanec.

Helen did well in the BBC competition and ended up coming in sixth place in the end.

She has also made some appearances on Pointless Celebrities, Celebrity Catchphrase and Richard Osman’s House of Games.

She has been with her Call the Midwife co-star Jack Ashton since 2016 with the couple having two children together.

Helen is currently appearing in a production of classic musical The King and I, which will see her putting her singing skills to the test as well as her acting.

The star also previously shared a behind-the-scenes snap from the series on her Instagram account with her 254,000 followers.

She shared a selfie on New Year’s Day in between takes and captioned the picture: “Such a big year for Trixie, she forgot to button up. Starts tonight on BBC 1 #callthemidwife.”

The Call the Midwife finale will be airing next week with the BAFTA Film Awards taking its slot this evening (February 19).

The last episode of series 12 will see nurse Trixie preparing to exchange vows with Matthew Aylward (Olly Rix).

But as always, there will be drama and a race against time to save lives when peril strikes.

Speaking on Virgin Radio to Tom Allen about working on Call the Midwife, Helen said: “It’s amazing though because we started this and it was just six episode one summer and we didn’t even know we were going to do another series and then be here 12 years later. It’s ridiculous.”

She went on to say: “I think the writing is amazing and I think the subjects that we tackle – even though it’s a Sunday night drama – it’s quite hard-hitting.

“Some of the subjects are still relevant today, you know a lot of the women’s issues that we deal with still are.

“So, I think it’s interesting and also the fact that there’s nuns and that’s lovely.”

Helen teased Trixie was “marrying well” with her husband-to-be driving a flashy car.

Call the Midwife concludes next Sunday on BBC One at 8pm
