Holly Willoughby spits out gross pancake but fans left divided over surprise topping

Holly Willoughby was forced to spit out a "gross" pancake on Tuesday's This Morning after a surprise topping.

During the latest instalment, Holly, 42, and her co-host Phillip Schofield took part in a pancake tasting segment – where the toppings were hidden from them and they had to guess what flavour it was.

After sampling unusual combinations, such as strawberries with balsamic vinegar, the last topping didn't go down well – as it was gravy.

Holly and Phil had no clue it was gravy with the delighted duo thinking it was in fact syrup.

To which Holly naively said: "Please don't be something gross… if that's gravy I'm going to not like it."

And just seconds after tucking into the pancakes, Holly quickly expressed her dislike as she ran to the back of the room with her napkin to discretely spit out the food.

"What was that? That's horrible!" Holly exclaimed with Phil adding: "That's beefy of some sort. It's like OXO!"

Holly then turned the sign around to reveal it was in fact gravy as she pointed out: "It is gravy! You're [producers] sick, you're sick, you're sick!"

While Phillip added: "You're filthy! What's the matter with you? Gravy!" as he too disliked the gravy topping.

The presenters then got a message from producers saying it's "very popular" to which Holly joked: "No it's not and it shouldn't be!"

However, despite the two presenters disliking the gravy topping, viewers at home weren't fussed as they pointed out that pancake batter is essentially a Yorkshire pudding – so the gravy fits.

Taking to Twitter, one person said: "Weirdly gravy on the pancakes probably is the most normal as pancakes are made from batter mix just as are Yorkshire Puddings #ThisMorning #shrovetuesday #PancakeDay #PancakeTuesday #pancakes."

A different account put: "Pancakes with gravy can’t be that disgusting – it’s just Yorkshire pudding batter after all. #ThisMorning."

While another follower wrote: "What's wrong with gravy? A pancake is just a flat Yorkshire pudding. #thismorning."

This Morning continues weekdays at 10am on ITV.
