Ewan Mitchell has shared how an old acting practice helped him embrace his character Aemond Targaryen’s essence in the House of the Dragon. The Game of Thrones prequel features hectic scenes inspired by the royal dynasty of Westeros known as the Targaryens.

Aemond had a difficult upbringing, yet managed to surpass his fearful nature by claiming the mighty dragon Vhagar, turning him into the most powerful dragon rider.

In the process, he accidentally killed one of the potential heirs to the Iron Throne, Rhaenyra Targaryen (played by Emma D’Arcy), which created a generational war.

In an interview with The Face, the actor confessed that even though “method acting gets a bad rap”, the technique has helped him play the part.

There’s a common concern linked to this practice, considering actors develop instinctive reactions to their surroundings that essentially mimic the character in the script.

Ewan delineated the process to connect with Aemond: “I definitely stayed in a state of character, because his temperature is so high, and I’m quite calm and collected.

“So instead of fluctuating between the two, I’d find a middle ground that I could relax into between takes.”

In the past, a series of compelling artists have received criticism for adopting the technique.

Jared Leto, also known as the Joker, allegedly harassed co-stars with dead animals, bullets and used condoms.

Another example includes Robert De Niro, who worked twelve-hour shifts as a taxi driver in preparation for the film Taxi Driver.

After igniting a war, Aemond will have to face new predicaments.

Following the book’s adaptation, Fire and Blood, it is unknown whether the warrior will now be introduced as an accidental killer or a vicious monster.

One thing is for sure, Lucerys killing will be avenged. Unfortunately for Aemond, he will remain tied with Vhagar to survive the coming storm.

Ewan continued teasing fans by adding: “I guess Aemond is the guy who kickstarts the domino effect that’ll lead to the Dance of the Dragons.

“If season one was about seeing Aemond getting warmed up, season two is all-out war.”

The actor confirmed that he shaved his head in preparation for the next season because it’s more accessible for wig scenes.
