Before she was an international pop star, and an award-winning actress, Lady Gaga was known as Stefani Germanotta, a student at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. In an interview with E! Red Carpet & Award Shows, Lady Gaga explained that even before she know she wanted to be a singer, she wanted her moment on the silver screen.
“I wanted to be an actress before I wanted to be a singer,” Lady Gaga said. “But I couldn’t make it as an actress, I was bad at auditioning. I never got a job.”
After dropping out of college, Lady Gaga started her music career, earning multiple Grammy Awards. It wasn’t until 2019 that Lady Gaga earned her first Oscar for “Best Music (Original Song.)” She even earned a nomination for “Best Actress in a Leading Role.”
Lady Gaga won an Oscar for her work on ‘A Star is Born’
According to IMDB, Lady Gaga’s first acting role was on The Sopranos. Even if she just played a girl at a swimming pool, it was the start of the artist’s acting career. Her first major acting role was on FX’s television series, American Horror Story. Gaga played The Countess on American Horror Story: Hotel and then Scáthach on American Horror Story: Roanoke.
Her first time in a lead role was for Bradley Cooper’s 2018 movie, A Star is Born. Lady Gaga played the character, Ally, who dreamed of being a performer and fell head over heels for Jackson Maine, a famous country artist.
Lady Gaga played a role in the songwriting process for this movie. She co-wrote the hit song of the movie, “Shallow” with musicians Mark Ronson, Andrew Wyatt, and Anthony Rossomando. Together with her team, she won the Oscar for “Best Original Song.”
She was recognized for her acting skills at the Oscars, in addition to being recognized at other award shows. Lady Gaga won the award for “Best Original Song” at the Golden Globes. She was commended for her acting skills at the MTV Movie & TV Awards.

In June 2019, MTV held its Movie & TV Award Show. Along with Lady Gaga, four other actors were nominated in the “Best Performace in a Movie” category. MTV nominated Lupita Nyong’o for her portrayal of Red in Us. Rami Malek was nominated for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rapsody.
For her performance as Ally in A Star is Born, Lady Gaga won the award. The actress did not accept the award in person, as she is currently doing her residency in Las Vegas. Her “Haus of Gaga” fashion display is also available in Las Vegas.
It is unclear whether Lady Gaga will continue her acting endeavors. Recently, the artist tweeted that her sixth Lady Gaga album is already in the works.
