Im A Celebs Mike Tindall spills details on meeting royal wife Zara and boozy first date

I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star Mike Tindall shared some royal details as he revealed all about meeting his wife Zara Tindall, who is Princess Anne's only daughter and the late Queen's granddaughter, on tonight's episode of the ITV show.

While the former England rugby ace kept surprisingly tight-lipped on his in-laws during the ITV show's launch, the sports star and dad-of-three finally spilled some personal details to his campmates during Monday's instalment.

Chatting with 34 year old comedian Babatunde Aleshe and Hollyoaks actor Owen Warner, 23, Mike, 44, spilled all on his first meeting with Zara during the Rugby World Cup in Australia and their subsequent "boozy" first date.

"I was at the World Cup, she was out watching," the star began. "I got dropped from the semi-final.

"I was p****d off and so I went for a beer with another guy who got dropped and a guy who was over [in Sydney].

"They’d met her before and they introduced us and then got chatting.”

“So if you never got dropped you never would have met her?” Owen quizzed, as Mike joked it had been the "best decision" of player Clive Woodward's life.

The trio giggled away at Mike's memories as he went on to say he and Zara chose a "local lunch" for their first official date, which ended up being "quite a boozy one".

"Then we figured out that we both quite like getting smashed. It was a good start," Mike joked.

The rugby star went on to reveal to his new friends that it had been 18 years since he and Zara began their relationship, which shocked Owen, whom the star could have a "looming feud" with, according to fans.

The soap star couldn't believe a relationship could last that long, and admitted his longest so far has only been six months.

“You are only 23 though," Mike assured him, and Babatunde thought back to his own first date with his wife.

"I want to say we went Nando’s. Most likely did you know…" the star laughed. "I think it was."

The actor and Podcast host also went on to reveal that he and his wife grew up together as they went to the same school.

Mike's comments come as the rugby player's dad Philip has recently claimed that some people in the family were worried about his son's decision to marry Zara, 41.

Philip told The Sunday Times that Mike's late grandmother wasn't happy about the couple's union, which took place in 2011.

Philip told the publication: “[Mike's mum] Linda’s mum was dead against it. In her day, royalty married royalty and she thought the wedding would be shunned.”

Despite her expectations, Philip said that the whole of the Royal Family had been “just lovely” right from the start of Mike and Zara’s relationship.
