Beyoncé voiced Nala in Disney’s photo-real version of ‘The Lion King’

She may be known for her music, but Beyoncé sometimes appears as an actress for movies like The Pink Panther and Dreamgirls. Most recently, the singer and actress appeared in Disney’s photo-real adaptation of The Lion King, even earning a few Grammy nominations for her work with the film.

Beyoncé even performed iconic songs from the original animated movies including, “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.” She also created her own album, The Lion King: The Gift, which featured her eldest daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, on the song “Brown Skin Girl.”

Beyoncé Knowles-Carter appears in The Lion King, alongside actors like Donald Glover and James Earl Jones. Unfortunately, Blue Ivy did not voice act as any of the characters in this film. Shahadi Wright Joseph portrayed Young Nala in this version, while JD McCrary voiced Young Simba.

Blue Ivy Carter did, however, attend the premiere with her mother. During the documentary “Making the Gift,” Blue Ivy explained the meaning behind her headpiece, saying that it represented the song “The Circle of Life.” This little diva also appeared on the album inspired by The Lion King, singing the song “Brown Skin Girl” alongside her mother.

Inspired by the story of The Lion King and the music and of Africa, Beyoncé created her album The Lion King: The Gift, featuring some of the best-known African artists and producers. She featured her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, on the song “Brown Skin Girl,” along with SAINt JHN and WizKid.

“When I see fathers singing ‘Brown Skin Girl’ to their daughters, to know that my daughter can have the same opportunities and feel confident and feel like she doesn’t have to take her braids down, she can comb her Afro out, she can glisten in her brown skin. That’s why I make music,” Beyoncé said during her documentary, Making the Gift.

Making the Gift gave fans a look into the writing, rehearsing, and recording process, which even includes Blue Ivy singing her part in “Brown Skin Girl.” The mother-daughter duo sat on a couch, reading over the lyrics and eventually performing it into a microphone.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Blue Ivy Carter performed alongside her mother. Beyoncé’s eldest daughter previously appeared in songs like “Blue” and on The Carters’ “The Boss.” The Lion King: The Gift is available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and most major music platforms.

The live-action adaptation of The Lion King is available on Disney’s subscription service, Disney+. To learn more about Disney’s streaming platform and to subscribe, visit their website.
