ITV GMB’s Adil Ray points out loophole so Tier 4 viewers can see their loved ones

GMB: Adil Ray discusses support bubble loophole

Good Morning Britain focused largely on the latest coronavirus restrictions after Boris Johnson announced much of the South East and London would go into Tier 4. Speaking on the show this morning, guest host Adil Ray explained how there was a loophole so some residents in Tier 4 could visit their family.

The latest restrictions for those in Tier 4 means residents have been urged not to travel out of the South East or London for Christmas.

Residents are being told to “stay home” to stop the spread of the virus, which has left many worried they’ll b spending Christmas alone.

However, Adil reminded viewers there are some allowances for residents because support bubbles are still allowed.

“f you are in Tier 4, you can still meet people in your existing support bubble, and there are lots of criteria that make a support bubble,” he explained.

“Things like single parents, single people, single vulnerable people, a family with a young child under one.

“You can meet those even if they are in different Tier.

“It’s not advised, the government says keep your support bubbles local, but if they have to be in a different Tier, you can.”

Adil continued: “And you can [stay] overnight with them as well, it’s not ideal and you should try to keep your support bubbles local and not overnight, but you can.

“I think that gives a little bit of reassurance to some families and vulnerable people who felt they were going to be entirely alone this Christmas.

“If you are living on your own there may be a chance you can still see your family.”

However Adil’s advice goes against government’s own advice as they instructed: “Do not join a Christmas bubble with anyone from a Tier 4 area.

“Only see your bubble on Christmas Day. Do not stay overnight and keep your visits as short as possible.

“Stay local where possible. Avoid travelling from a high prevalence to a low prevalence area.”

They do however, explained it is possible to meet your support bubble on Christmas Day, even if they are in Tier 4.

But, it is advised you do not stay overnight and isolate for five days before meeting up.

Adil joined Charlotte Hawkins on Good Morning Britain as Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid took a break.

Last week, Piers told viewers: “We’re back Christmas Day! See you then!”

This year, Good Morning Britain, Lorraine and This Morning will all air on Christmas Day to inject some festive joy.

They will be followed by Christmas specials from James Martin and Ainsley Harriot.
