Josie Gibson is star of ITVs future as shes tipped for leading role on This Morning

Josie Gibson has wowed audiences since stepping in for Holly Willoughby on This Morning when she fell ill.

And after she once again took the reins of the hit ITV show alongside Vernon Kay on Monday, an ITV source says the channel is "investing a lot of time in Josie's development."

The 36 year old has been part of the This Morning family since 2019 as a competition presenter but stepped into a main role and covered for Holly when she was ill last month.

Big Brother winner Josie also won praise when she hosted the first of the Christmas period shows on Monday.

The source exclusively told OK!: "ITV have been investing a lot of time in Josie’s development, they see her as a real star of the future.

"Just like Alison Hammond before her they think she has the personality and talent to take on a more leading role on the show.

"She really impressed when she stepped in for Holly at the last minute recently and the positive audience reaction gave them real food for thought.

"Everyone was thrilled with her chemistry with Vernon and there’s definitely talk of them doing more shows together when the main presenters are on holiday."

Viewers tuning in at home seemed very happy with Josie and Vernon on Monday, as they said the pair's joint energy was contagious.

One impressed fan said: "Love Josie and Vernon on here!!! Loved the Simon Gregson interview, so funny."

Another agreed, writing on Twitter: "Vernon and Josie are a great team on This Morning. Smart, kind and funny but serious when needed, love it."

A third added their thoughts on the pairing, as they commented: "I am loving this morning with Josie and Vernon. Great combination."

Others said they hoped to see more of the "fun" duo in the future, with some even calling for them to join the presenting line-up on a more permanent basis as they were a "breath of fresh air".

They wrote: "Josie and Vernon every friday please #thismorning," as another commented: "Josie and Vernon work together better already and it's only been half an hour."

While another viewer wrote: "Vernon and Josie – brilliant pairing! Please make this more permanent."

This comes after Josie previously stepped in to present the show with Phillip Schofield, after his co-host Holly was off sick for three days.

Opening up about the experience and the love she’d received from viewers, Josie recently revealed: "I made mistakes on air and sometimes my timing was off, but the viewers were so understanding."
