Love Island bosses swamped with 100,000 applications for this summer's show

LOVE Island bosses have been inundated with 100,000 applications for this summer’s show.

It comes after the ITV2 reality series was axed last year due to the pandemic.

It is set to return to a Covid-secure set in Majorca in July.

The channel has hired a crew and hopes to replicate the success of I’m A Celebrity last year.

A TV source said: “The casting team have been shocked by the amount of contestant applications they’ve received and impressed with the standard.

“They can’t wait to start remotely screen-testing their favourites over the next few months.

“Producers reckon it’s because youngsters have been stuck at home, getting cabin fever and know the show is a one-way ticket to success.

“With very few new telly programs being made at the moment, Love Island is set to be a ratings winner.”

Casting chiefs are also contacting their own picks for contestants by trawling social media and video sites.

Laura Whitmore, 35, and her narrator hubby comedian Iain Stirling, 33, will return to front the series.
