There, they try and find a partner that they can stick with through the final and beyond, with a cool £50,000 prize in their sights too.

Thousands of hopefuls try to make it into the villa every year by applying, but some people have managed to get through the iconic doors without permission in the past

Five intruders a day

The show has seen the number of viewers skyrocket in the last few years, peaking at around four and a half million fans per night for the current series.

But that has seen the fanbase increase as well, leading to some crazed fanatics attempt to find the villa's location.

2018 contestant Alex Miller told the Daily Star the security guards had quite a busy time stopping them in the old home of Love Island in Majorca.

He said: “When I left, I chatted with the guys who looked after us.

“They told me at least five people a day try to access that villa – but so far no-one has got in.

“They’re clearly doing a good job! I was impressed.”

Prankster walks through front door

The security guards dropped the ball in a major way in last year's series – when a YouTuber was able to walk straight through the front door.

Prankster Omer Majid gained entry to the villa with ease wearing night vision goggles before trying to head to the girls’ bedroom.

His stunt sent producers into a frenzy as they locked the contestants inside two panic rooms.

One group was locked down in a ground-floor bedroom with the prankster nearby, while others were sent into an upstairs dressing room.

Omer even managed to sit where the contestants talk to the cameras before security threw him out and detained him until police arrived.

Omer says he was able to discover a blind spot from the guards’ watchtower and managed to crawl through an undergrowth which was used to deter intruders.

From there he simply walked through the front door and filmed himself inside the villa before security scrambled to get to him.

'Flesh-eating vultures' cause producer panic

Naturally, it isn't just humans that manage to get into the villa, as we've seen in the last two series.

Producers panicked in 2021, when environmentalists cordoned off a 500-acre area surrounding the Puig Major mountain in Majorca to allow rare griffon vultures to nest in peace.

It's the world's highest-flying bird and they typically feed on the soft tissue from carcasses.

“There are some suggestions they have been preying on small live animals in the mountains, but the Islanders won’t be in any danger from them." a spokesperson said at the time.

“But any twitchers among them might be lucky enough to see these beautiful birds of prey circling above.” they added.

Gemma Owen's four-legged furry friend

We've had an animal intruder this year too!

Saturday (July 9) evening's episode of Unseen Bits – an hour-long compilation of funny clips which didn't make it to the main show – saw Gemma crawling across the decking before telling fans to guess what happened next.

After the break, it was revealed that the international dressage rider was attempting to get closer to a furry new arrival.

Gemma shushed the boys as she attempted to get closer to the feline. Indiya joked: "Gemma go and get it, bring it in…we need a support animal," to which Michael Owen's daughter responded: "Someone chuck me down some ham in my hand."

After Indiyah did the honours, Gemma then threw the ham towards the cat in an attempt to lure it out. Things didn't go quite to plan, though, as the stray cat quickly ran to retrieve it before immediately making its escape.

Villa swarmed by 45mph ostriches

Gemma did well to even get in to the villa unscathed, as did all of this year's contestants, after their new home in paradise was beset by ostriches with speeds of up to 45mph.

The birds had set up camp beside the new location for this year’s series.

The ostriches, which can run at up to 45mph and are capable of kicking a human to death, descended on the villa and started pecking around the grounds.

A source at the time told the Mirror: “Producers have to be careful as they have powerful legs and are known to lash out when disturbed.

"They seem very interested in what’s going on inside, so the team have been told to be wary, and humans can easily rile them up.”
