Married At First Sight UK will be returning to E4 on August 30 and this year, eight couples will be put to the test. In a completely revamped experiment, the 16 singletons will meet through dinner parties, where they will get to know each other. Relationship experts Paul Brunson and Mel Schilling have teased plenty of potential drama in the new season.
Married At First Sight season six will introduce a whole range of ‘firsts’, including the show’s first same-sex couple.
Seven females and nine males will be taking part in the quirky matchmaking experiment in an attempt to find true love.
They will first lay eyes on each other on their wedding days and will set off on a luxurious honeymoon together.
Each couple will then have to face living together, meeting each other’s friends and families and having dinner parties with the other couples.
This can only spell out disaster for some of the couples as they are bound to judge each other on their progress.
Expert Paul Brunson said he was left feeling “mindblown” over the show’s new format, especially the dinner parties.
He told Express.co.uk: “This is like times one hundred of what the last series was in terms of the intensity.
“Some of the biggest changes is there are more couples, there’s eight.
“The fact the couples come together at dinner parties and how they are influenced by their perception of how they believe the other couples are performing, that is eye-opening.
“That is a science experiment right there.” He also explained how the commitment ceremonies exposed yet more tension.
He said: “The fact they have to evaluate their relationship on a weekly basis is really interesting.
“The dinner parties were by far the most intriguing part of the whole process for me.
“It’s filmed over several hours but you only see 47 mins, I can watch every second, every second I was glued. It is mindblowing.”
The UK series has taken inspiration from its Australian counterpart, which already features dinner parties.
For the last British season, only two couples were able to take part due to coronavirus restrictions.
Thankfully, filming was able to go ahead as normal for season six, and more participants can only mean more drama.
Mel Schilling added: “What I would say is that dynamic almost becomes a separate character in this whole narrative.
“Yes, it does influence the direction the relationships go in. I’d say pay particular attention to what goes on at those dinner parties and how couples start to change in response to that.”
Fans who are eagerly awaiting the release of the new season are likely to be familiar with the Australian version.
The latest season of MAFS Australia was the most dramatic yet, with one particular dinner party including a huge fight.
Martha Kalifatidis and Cyrell Paule were sat on the opposite side of the table to one another.
Martha, who had overheard Cyrell’s conversation, threatened to pour her drink over her.
She then proceeded to do exactly that and poured her glass of wine over Cyrell, who retaliated by doing the same thing.
Viewers are keen to see if this intense level of drama is evident in the UK version.
