Meghan Markle and Prince Harry slammed for New York tour by Nana Akua

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been heavily criticised for their New York trip by Jeremy Vine panelist Nana Akua who called it "sickening".

In a clip from the Channel 5 show on Monday (September 27) the panelists were discussing Meghan and Harry's first public appearance since the birth of their second child, Lilibet.

The Sussexes had visited New York City shortly after the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks to promote vaccine equity.

Although many people appreciated their presence, others were not so happy.

Nana Akua said: "To be honest with you, I'm absolutely sick to my back teeth of this couple if I'm totally honest with you.

I mean what on earth – they don't want to be royal, they didn't want the publicity – now here they are once again, having taken private jets again to do this.

"They've got all this thing going on, behaving as though they're doing a royal visit, the very thing that they didn't want to do in the UK."

"I just find it all a bit sickening," she added.

The ex-royal couple joined NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio, First Lady McCray and Dante de Blasio and visited The One World Observatory which was built upon the destroyed World Trade Center complex.

It was reported the ex-royal couple may have been filming the trip for a rumoured Netflix documentary about their lives because a microphone was spotted attached to Harry and their own videographer was accompanying them across the city.

In a statement released after the trip, Meghan and Harry commented: "In this room, we had a number of the foremost leaders on public health, pandemic preparedness, scientific progress, and community building.

"Today's meeting was a much-appreciated opportunity to learn from some of the most respected experts who are working tirelessly to end this pandemic.

"Building on ongoing conversations we've had with global leaders over the past 18 months, today further reinforced our commitment to vaccine equity."
