Sexy Beasts will be the latest dating show with a twist to be added to Netflix’s extensive library of content. From Love is Blind to Too Hot To Handle, the streaming service has been coming up with alternative ways of finding “the one” and Sexy Beasts is its next creation. The unique concept wasn’t entirely explained to the cast of the show though before signing up.

Sexy Beasts will see singletons wearing unusual masks to hide what they look like as they go on dates.

One person is going to go on three dates before eliminating someone and then meet up with the final two another time before making their decision.

By the end of the show, everyone will finally get to see their fellow contestants’ faces but the dater making the decision must choose their winner before the masks come off.

So it is essentially a blind dating show where you can go on dates and still have no idea who’s sitting across the table from you.

From witches and roosters, to deers and rhinos, there is a collective mix of masks in the first series.

The concept may be enough to entice some people to want to sign up for the show but according to the contestants who spoke to Express.co.uk, this was kept under wraps.

In fact, they didn’t know about the masks until days before they were supposed to start shooting.

Bella the dinosaur explained: “So I got scouted to be on the show, I got messaged on Instagram so obviously I didn’t know anything about the show or what it was or what we were going to be doing.”

“I think what they told me was that it was a major streaming network and I could be completely wrong because I don’t entirely remember but I’m sure they told me it was a similar concept to Love is Blind where it’s about personality.

“They were talking a lot about personality, asking in the audition process how much personality matters to me, so that’s all I really got to be honest before I did the show.

“I don’t think I found that out [about wearing masks] until a week before I did the show.

“I was like ‘Oh my God!'”

Prior to Bella joining the cast of Sexy Beasts, she had heard about the original series which came out on BBC in 2014.

Little did she know at the time that this was going to be the dating series she was joining.

She added: “When I found out about this and it was basically the same thing, it was so funny, I heard about the show a few months ago and now they want me in it which is actually crazy.”

Martha the deer who also appears in the dating reality series was also taken aback when she found out.

She told Express.co.uk: “I knew it would be dating in disguise – I just assumed it would be behind closed doors, going off other dating shows that I’ve seen.

I did not expect to be in full Hollywood prosthetic masks, literally face to face with someone not looking like themselves. It was absolutely bonkers.”

But will anyone be able to find true love when physical attraction is taken off the table?

Sexy Beasts will be available to watch from tomorrow, Wednesday, July 21, on Netflix.
