Filming is currently underway in New Orleans for the highly anticipated fifth season of popular crime drama Queen of the South. Ahead of the show’s long-awaited comeback on the USA Network and Netflix, series lead Alice Braga has been giving fans their first look at the next chapter.

Teresa Mendoza (played by Alice Braga) seems to be getting closer to her dark alter-ego in a new set picture from Queen of the South season five.

Braga took to her personal Instagram this week to share a new image from the set, causing much excitement from fans.

She captioned the new post ‘It’s coming’, suggesting there could be an announcement for the start of season five in the coming weeks.

The series lead appears to be getting her makeup touched-up in between shots, and is dressed in Teresa’s iconic white power suit.

From the beginning of the series, this striking white outfit has been used to symbolise Teresa’s dark persona and future self, the titular Queen of the South.

Now it appears the rising queenpin will be fully embracing her dark side in the next instalment.

Showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez previously confirmed as much when she revealed the death of Teresa’s godson Tony Parra (Julian Silva) will have major consequences when the show returns.

She revealed on Twitter: “Teresa’s been deeply affected by Tony’s death.”

“It shakes her to the core and brings her closer to the woman in the white suit.”

The star’s latest post was immediately followed by excited reactions from her followers in anticipation of the show’s return.

“I can’t wait any longer,” one fan commented. And another added: “When??? Counting down.”

Fans have been waiting since summer 2019 for Queen of the South’s return, as initial production on season five was put on hold by the coronavirus pandemic.

Now the cast and crew are finally speeding ahead with season five, it’s hoped new episodes may start releasing before the end of the year.

As the wait continues, new updates and set pics from the cast’s Instagram have provided followers some snippets of what to expect from season five.

It has already been confirmed that series favourites Hemky Madera (Pote Galvez), Peter Gadiot (James Valdez) and Molly Burnett (Kelly Anne Van Awken) will all be returning.

James Valdez, Teresa’s former handler and potential love interest, made his stunning return at the end of season four, possibly paving the way for Camila Vargas (Veronica Falcón) to re-enter the series.

Meanwhile, Burnett has been promoted to series regular for the coming instalment, and can also be seen hanging out with her co-stars on social media.

Their most recent post on TikTok gave fans a glimpse of the stars’ downtime, in which the core cast were seen singing and dancing along to Nelly’s ‘Dilemma’.

As Queen of the South’s updates continue to stack up, fans have their fingers crossed an official announcement for when we can expect to see the season five premiere isn’t too far off.

Queen of the South season 4 is available to stream on Netflix.
