Stranger Things season 4: Do Eleven and Will become villains in new series?

Eleven (played by Millie Bobby Brown) and Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) played their part in defeating the Mind Flayer in Stranger Things season four, but a new fan theory suggests their fight with the villain in the Netflix series might not be over. Stranger Things season four, this fan theory suggests, may see the Mind Flayer take control of Eleven and Will. Netflix has not actually commissioned Stranger Things season four yet, but that has not stopped fans speculating about what will happen in the series.

Do Eleven and Will become villains in new series of Stranger Things?

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Stranger Things

A new fan theory seems to suggest that Will and Eleven will turn from heroes to villains in the next series of Stranger Things.

Writing on Reddit, Stranger Things fan weedmonkey666 wrote: “In the first and second season, Will gets infected by the Mind Flayer via the tube thing down in throat while in the Upside Down.

“At the end of season one we see him throw up a slug (baby demogorgon), and later in season two he had various flashbacks/visions of the Upside Down where he sees the Mind Flayer.

“In season three, Billy’s (Dacre Montgomery) car breaks down at Steel Works and gets a bite, this bite seems to be the cause of him being infected and the Mind Flayer being able to control him later on.

“Also in season 3, Eleven also gets bitten by the monster in the cabin. Later she pulls out a slug (baby demogorgon) from her cut/bite.

“If Eleven is infected, the Mind Flayer could control her like it did with Billy, Will and the flayed, to eventually destroy her or use her to get more control/spread.”

At the end of Stranger Things season three, Eleven has lost her powers, seemingly as a result of pulling the Mind Flayer out of her body.

However, as the season proves, even if you think you have defeated the Mind Flayer for good, it always finds a way of coming back.

As such, season four could see the Mind Flayer find a way to take over Eleven for the first time and Will for the second.

This could create an interesting dynamic between Eleven and her ‘father’ Jim Hopper (David Harbour).

Although he seemed to die in the current series, many fans think he is ‘The American’, the figure mentioned in the credits scene in the last episode of Stranger Things season three.

This scene also establishes that there may still be an entrance to the Upside Down open that the Mind Flayer could escape from.

In the scene, a Russian prisoner is attacked by a demogorgon that, presumably has found a way out of the Upside Down.

If he returns in season four, it may mean he has to fight against the girl who he has adopted as a daughter.

This would mirror nicely with season two, which saw Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) having to try and get the Mind Flayer out of her own son Will.
