Strictly Come Dancing 2020: Nicola Adams to ‘win’ series as show-first advantage unveiled

Nicola Adams became the first female amateur boxer to win an Olympic gold medal at London 2012 and she could become the first celebrity in a single-sex pairing to win Strictly Come Dancing. The Olympian will make history when she takes to the dance floor with her professional partner and JJ Chambers has explained why he thinks she’ll progress well in the BBC competition.
Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press, JJ compared Nicola’s upcoming dance debut to her time in the boxing ring.
JJ began: “Put it this way, I have covered Nicola in sporting competitions in the past and I used the line, ‘She’s going to be hard to beat’ and she’s right every single time.
“Nicola is a dedicated athlete and I’m sure she’s going to bring that level of education to her training for this.
“I know she has great footwork and speed. Again, I don’t know much about dancing but sure there are parallels between a number of different sports.

“For athletes like myself, whether that be cyclists or runners, it’s a fixed bit of motion, a boxer, the movement, she’s going to be trained for.
“At the same time, everyone in this cast is dedicated to their particular profession or they wouldn’t be here at the incredible levels that they are.”
Strictly Come Dancing fans have seen a host of sport stars take to the dance floor and several have lifted the Glitterball Trophy.
Nicola will be hoping she follows in the footsteps of fellow Olympian Louis Smith who won in 2012 with Flavia Cacace.
England cricketer Mark Ramprakash lifted the Glitterball Trophy with Karen Hardy in 2006.
While another English cricketer Darren Gough won the year before with professional Lilia Kopylova.
Although three sport stars have won the series, a boxer has yet to lift the trophy.
As one half of the first-ever all-female pairing, will Nicola score a triple record by becoming the first boxer and single-sex couple to win the series?

Strictly’s JJ went on to detail the moves he won’t be able to perform after suffering life-changing injuries.
The former Royal Marine Commando sustained horrific injuries following an IED explosion in Afghanistan before becoming a TV presenter.
JJ said: “[My body] was all stuck back together and the surgeon built me a new body.
“I spent the best part of four, five years learning how to use that body and here we are.
“Now, we’re going to find out if it’s fixed or not essentially and that’s the amazing thing about this process.”
“There is going to be things which I am either going to struggle with and will likely get to a point where I am not able to do things,” JJ continued.
“I very much doubt I’m going to be able to go full Patrick Swayze and lift someone above my head because I can barely lift my arms above my head.
“But at the same time, I’m going to try, I’m going to be sensible and I’m going to listen to my body.”
