Strictly Come Dancing 2022 winner revealed as Hamza Yassin lifts Glitterball Trophy

Strictly Come Dancing's Hamza Yassin was unveiled as the 2022 winner on Saturday night's final.

The presenter and wildlife cameraman, 32, lifted the Glitterball Trophy with his pro partner Jowita Przystał as they celebrated their incredible achievement.

Hamza competed in the final against Fleur East and Vito Coppola, Molly Rainford and Carlos Gu, and Helen Skelton and Gorka Marquez.

Upon learning he had won the show, Hamza broke down into tears as he admitted: "Words can't describe how I feel. I want to thank one person in particular, Jowita, you are an angel disguised as a human being. You're amazing."

He sweetly added: "Thank you to everyone out there for voting for us, this is the best thing that's ever happened to me."

While pro dancer Jowita, who won the show for the first time and her parents were supporting her in the audience, said: "I think, just so you know, anything is possible.

"He is just the proof, that anything is possible and he came here on this show with no dancing experience – he made it, he worked hard, and he made it. I'm so proud of you and I would love to thank everybody."

The duo then celebrated their win as they held up the Glitterball Trophy and danced one final time with their co-stars.

Prior to his win, the presenter had topped the Strictly leaderboard an incredible five times and had avoided the dreaded dance-off the whole series.

During the final, Hamza had to perform a routine chosen by the judges, his own favourite dance and finally a show dance.

The cameraman, who topped the leaderboard with Jowita in the live semi-final on Sunday, performed a judges’ pick routine of the Salsa to Ecuador by Sash! featuring Rodriguez.

Hamza also performed his and Jowita's couple’s choice to Jerusalema Remix by Master KG featuring Burna Boy and Nomcebo Zikode, as well as a show dance to Let’s Face The Music And Dance by Irving Berlin.

The TV star went into the final as favourite to take home the coveted Glitterball Trophy.

Last year’s competition saw Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice crowned the winners of the competition.

It comes as Hamza revealed that he has shed a whopping stone and a half thanks to his stint on Strictly.

Speaking ahead of the final, Hamza reflected on his time on Strictly and revealed he has lost 13kg, which is over a stone and a half.

He said: “My feet are not achy anymore and I'm seeing body parts being defined and I feel so much happier, fitter, and healthier and I hope I can keep it going. It will be amazing if I can.”

Hamza further told Press Association: “This suit I'm wearing was tailor-made at the beginning and now I'm wearing a belt to tighten it. It's an amazing feeling. Dancing is an incredible workout. There's no need to go running.”

The Strictly Come Dancing final aired on BBC One on 17 December at 7.05pm.
