Strictly Come Dancing: Can Oti Mabuse take part if her sister is a judge?

Motsi Mabuse will join the Strictly Come Dancing 2019 judges’ panel when the series returns later this year, meaning for the first time one of the judges will be related to one of the Strictly professionals. Oti Mabuse is the younger sister of Motsi and some Strictly fans have been questioning whether she can take part in the show if her sister is a judge. Strictly Come Dancing fans will soon find out if the dancer is taking part when this year’s celebrities are matched with their professional partners on BBC One.

Can Oti Mabuse take part in Strictly if her sister is a judge?

Motsi and Oti have previously been in a situation where one was a dancer and the other a judge.

As such, it seems certain that Oti will be able to take part if she is named as one of the professional partners this year.

When Motsi was a judge on the German equivalent of Strictly, Let’s Dance, Oti appeared as a professional on two seasons of the show.

Over these two years, Motsi gave her sister similar points to those given by the other judges on the show.

WHO IS MOTSI MABUSE?

For example, despite their family connection, Motsi had no problem giving her sister a 3/10 for both of her dances on the 2016 edition of Let’s Dance before Oti and television presenter Niels Ruf were eliminated.

This was referred to when the MailOnline asked a Strictly insider whether Motsi would show favouritism to her sister.

They told her: “Motsi and Oti have been in this position before as judge/pro dancer on the German version of the show for multiple series – and were much loved.”

On Let’s Dance, special rules were put in place that allowed Motsi to judge and Oti to compete.

WHAT DOES ANTON DU BEKE REALLY THINK ABOUT DARCEY BUSSELL?

Oti told The Sun: “We weren’t allowed to talk for three months because that wouldn’t be fair.

“She didn’t talk to the other dancers, so she couldn’t talk to me.”

She spoke about how tough this was, adding: “We normally talk every day, twice a day, we’re really close.”

A source also told The Sun: “Motsi is totally impartial.

STRICTLY COME DANCING 2019 LINE-UP

“She will be scrupulously fair, as she always was with Oti on the German version.”

Motsi herself has not spoken about the difficulties of judging her sister.

When she was announced as the replacement for Strictly judge Darcey Bussell, Motsi said in a statement: “I am absolutely overjoyed to be joining Strictly.

“I have so much respect for the other judges and hope to add my own bit of sparkle to the show.”

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 is coming soon to BBC One.
