Strictly Come Dancing returned on Sunday night for the BBC show’s semi-final. The remaining contestants had to perform two routines in a bid to fight for their place in the competition. However, things didn’t go to plan for poor Will Mellor and his dance partner Nancy Xu following their first performance.

The duo received mixed reviews from the judges, with Shirley Ballas telling him: “There were quite a few things missing.

“You had the arrogance part, you came out and you delivered a good strong message.”

The head judge went on to demonstrate how a Paso Doble should have been done, explaining: “It is very much built on an oval shape.

“It collapsed every time you picked her up. The arms were too straight when they were out to the side.

“These are basic fundamentals from the very, very beginning, and they were very much missing from me.

“And when you choose to use a cane at the beginning, you have to extend it.

“It can’t feel like it’s like a little scarf around your neck. It is an extension that reaches and goes…so I didn’t get a good start from the beginning.”
