Viewers were shocked when Dembe Zuma (played by Hisham Tawfiq) decided to leave the task force for a role with the FBI in the ninth season of The Blacklist. The smash hit NBC drama will be returning to screens soon, and fans are convinced the ex-bodyguard will eventually re-team with Raymond ‘Red’ Reddington (James Spader) for his next mission.

The Blacklist fans want Dembe back at Red’s side when the series returns for season 10.

NBC’s hit crime drama is expected to head into production soon, with new episodes picking up on Red’s latest solo mission potentially arriving by the end of this year.

As fans wait for the hiatus to come to an end, they’ve been speculating what could be next for Dembe in his new role.

Although Dembe insisted his career with the FBI is still his priority, he couldn’t stop himself from helping his old partner in the latest season finale.

As Red continues his mission away from the task force, much of the fanbase is convinced the bodyguard will eventually see the light and join back up with his old partner.

Redditor kafkadreams6667 speculated: “I would love it if Dembe reunited with Red in some capacity.

“Being Red’s loving friend, confidant, and protector has been his chief job until he joined the TF partly because Red disappeared after Liz’s death.

“And Dembe reunited with Red because he lacked protection after Weecha was injured, while still remaining true to the TF.”

Most fans seem to agree Dembe accompanying Red to the hospital in the finale is a clear sign he’ll be coming back into his inner circle sometime soon.

However, does this mean he’s ready to become Red’s bodyguard again? Or could he simply re-join the task force, with the occasional meeting with his old partner?

Dembe clearly still struggles to reconcile with Red’s darker traits and unorthodox methods, but he may start finding it harder not to protect his friend as dangerous former Blacklisters return to the fold.

User janinraleigh insisted: “Dembe could play a huge role on the task force this season.”

“He has a greater knowledge of the returning Blacklisters and how they could wrack their revenge upon Reddington.”

“I would like Weecha to return but for Dembe to step into more of a Reddington wrangler position. (More scenes between the two guys).”

And jujotheconquerer added: “I don’t like Dembe being part of the task force and want to see him back with Reddington.” (sic)

Unfortunately for Red, a spot on the task force could be the more likely option for Dembe going forward.

The team is now in desperate need of new blood following the double departure of Aram Mojtabai (Amir Arison) and Alina Park (Laura Sohn).

Plus, reports of Meera Malik’s (Parminder Nagra) daughter coming for answers in season 10 could be the catalyst Dembe needs to leave the FBI behind.

Even so, viewers seem convinced Dembe is better served by the series when he’s side-by-side with Red in the heat of the action, so another reunion could be imminent.

The Blacklist is available to watch on NBC in the USA and Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
