Bradley Walsh was left unimpressed with Celebrity Chase contestant and comedian Russell Kane when he aimed a barbed weight jibe at quiz expert Mark Labbett – AKA The Beast.

Four celebs each lined up to compete for a cash prize for their selected charities – and Russell was first up to the podium.

It all began as Brad quizzed him on which Chaser he'd prefer to face, as Russell quipped: "I don't think it's The Beast because I haven't heard a forklift approach the stairs at the back!"

The audience couldn't resist descending into giggles, but Bradley was left gasping in faux horror at the comment.

Russell then continued: "I tell you who I'd like to face. I'd like to face The Vixen because I'm married to a girl from Manchester so I know how to handle the feisty northern woman."

He added: "I think I could mess with her head!"

But Russell wasn't pleased to see The Beast make his way across the bridge to take his seat.

Cheekily, Bradley hurried to cover his own back as he said: "Shocking, by the way, that comment. Disgusting, the way you said that!"

Russell was clearly nervous as he asked: "Are the comments audible backstage?"

"Yes, they are!" Mark barked in response.

Mark wasn't holding back in his response, either, as he quickly hit back: "You should know by now, when there's heavy machinery involved you need a crash helmet – and you certainly do with me!"

Despite his earlier protests, Bradley had a jibe of his own for Mark, as he referenced winning a shopping competition at Oxford University.

"Oxford University shopping champion? You ate the shop!" he quipped.

And though Russell soared through to the Final Chase with a whopping £8,000 in his prize pot, it wasn't enough to impress The Beast as he didn't opt for the high offer of £40,000.

He even bested Mark on a couple of questions, including one about how much time a year people tend to spend on their phones.

The average was 22 days – but Mark opted for just two days.

Mark also didn't hesitate to hit out at actress Leonie Elliott for "sitting down" after an injured ankle meant she had to take a seat at the podium instead of standing, as contestants usually do.

The Chase airs weekdays from 5pm on ITV.
