David James left viewers lost for words after the former footballer managed to break a new record on The Chase for the celebrity with most correct answers given during the quick-fire round.

During Friday’s instalment of the popular ITV game show, egg heads were treated to a celebrity edition of the quiz show in order to raise vital funds for Soccer Aid.

For the star-studded edition, Bradley Walsh welcomed the former sportsman, Lianne Sanderson, Shaun Williamson and Dion Dublin.

Fans found themselves struggling to hold back their laughter as the established actor took on Irish chaser Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis.

But it’s fair to say that the legendary sportsman blew viewers away with him impressive general knowledge after he raked in an impressive £11,000 in just one minute.

After watching his faultless cash builder, the Coronation Street star informed him how me managed to correctly answer 11 questions under the time limit.

Bradders congratulated him, saying: "£11,000, that is amazing, David, honestly. You just scored the highest ever on a celebrity cash builder. Ever."

Darragh agreed, adding: "Hello David, 11 – that's two more than I got and they made me a Chaser! Well done."

Fans soon flooded to Twitter to share their thoughts on the impressive quiz head, as they congratulated him on his surprising success.

One user penned: “Well done to the Celebs on #thechase especially Barry from Eastenders and David James you were brilliant! #SoccerAid.”

Another agreed: “#TheChase Wow. Take a bow David James [three applause emojis]. Highest ever cash builder £11k.”

A third wrote: “Bloody hell David James that was impressive #TheChase,” as one user chimed in with: “Well wasn’t David James magnificent there? #TheChase.”

But Shaun Williamson went on to out-shine his co-star after he gambled everything in an attempt to add £150,000 to the jackpot.

Luckily the star managed to bring it home with the skin of his teeth with Darragh only one point behind in the nail-biting quiz.

The celebs smashed their way through the competition and went on to raise a staggering £168,000 for Soccer Aid.
