Strictly Come Dancing’s iconic Movie Week returned on Saturday, October 9 as 14 celebrities took to the dancefloor once more. After receiving an impressive total of 35 points from the judges, AJ Odudu and Kai Widdrington have been at the centre of one of the most prevalent rumours of the BBC ballroom show’s latest competition.

TV presenter and Strictly competitor AJ has now opened up to Zoe Ball on BBC Radio 2 about the supposed sparks flying between her partner Kai.

Zoe pressed her guest on the rumours circling the couple after fans couldn’t help but notice their chemistry on Saturday night.

The couple scored three nines from the judges after performing a passionate American Smooth to Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing.

AJ gave no answer at first but couldn’t help but giggle at Zoe’s questions.

The BBC presenter exclaimed: “She’s giggling nervously, that’s a good sign!”

However, AJ maintained she and Kai were simply acting the part for Saturday’s Movie Week special.

She defended her initial reaction, insisting: “I was just giggling.”

The Strictly celeb went on: “You know, I was in character at that moment on the dancefloor this week.”

AJ and Kai were inspired by the hit 1992 film The Bodyguard for their dance, which starred Houston and Kevin Costner as romantic leads.

“I was playing Rachel, he was playing Frank, they were in love,” she explained.

The romantic thriller ends with tragedy as Frank and Rachel are forced to say goodbye by the end of the film.

However, many fans and media outlets were hoping for a better outcome for AJ and Kai after their steamy performance in Week Three.

Plus, Zoe remained unconvinced by the Married At First Sight presenter’s denial.

She replied: “Bit of roleplay there, that’s how it all begins.”

“We are love, love, loving you too”, Zoe added, with AJ and Kai indeed becoming one of this season’s most popular pairings.

Rumours of romance were stoked when a Strictly insider claimed the couple had hit it off behind-the-scenes.

They told The Sun over the weekend: “Everyone backstage is talking about the sparks flying between AJ and Kai.

“It’s very passionate and intense whenever they’re together.”

The 33-year-old presenter has apparently “really hit it off” with her partner, 26.

Moreover, both dancers are single so a potential relationship wouldn’t be another victim of the so-called Strictly curse.

Viewers will just have to tune in again on Saturday night to see if AJ and Kai’s Week Four Samba takes their friendship to the next level.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 7pm on BBC One.
