SILENT Witness kicked of tonight with a gruesome scene after a skeleton was discovered encased in cement.
We take you through all of the key points from tonight's episode.
What happened in Silent Witness tonight?
It was all go on tonight's episode of Silent Witness.
The first of a two-parter called Hope got off to a grisly start after the discovery of a body.
Here's what went down on episode 7 of series 23.
A body is found
Teenagers messing around in a stolen car collided with a concrete pillar in a multistorey car park.
The joyriders escaped, but within the smashed concrete, the unmistakable form of a skull was revealed.
After painstakingly extracting the skeleton encased inside, Nikki and the Lyell team set about investigating who the skeleton belonged to.
The man is identified
As the body had been encased in cement it was able to be identified as missing man called Derek Marshall.
From this they were able to locate his last address and DI Jill Raymond and her team paid a visit to his former house.
They then fout out that the current owners of the house bought it for a VERY low price after Derek went missing.
The new owners also said that when they moved in the bathroom was left in a mess – the detectives looked into this and found blood matching Derek's.
After this they found out that Derek's wife Sue inherited a big life insurance policy after he went missing.
The mysterious wife
DI Raymond then tracked down Derek's wife Sue.
Since he went missing she has become a complete recluse, leaving in a rundown shack of a house.
The police believed she knew more than she was letting on and took her in for questioning.
Daughter had been frozen
We learnt that Sue and Derek's daughter called Hope had died young.
It then turned out that the couple had paid to have her body cryogenically frozen.
This expensive procedure had left them in severe debt.
Did Derek kill himself so that his wife could use the insurance to continue to pay for their daughter to be frozen and also pay off their debts?
Is Hope alive?
Next we see a woman who is in shock when she sees a poster put up by police asking for information on Derek.
The picture on the poster sees Derek holding onto the hand of his daughter Hope.
The woman then goes straight to the police, claiming to be the little girl in the picture.
We know that Hope would be around 30 years old now – could this woman really be here?
Clarissa's mum
Throughout the episode Clarissa was facing a difficult decision regarding her mother’s care.
We learnt that her mother had cancer and was starting chemotherapy.
Her treatment left her disorientated and lashing out on Clarissa.
When is Silent Witness next on?
The second part to this episode will continue tomorrow (January 28) at 9pm.
The show is then back for two final episodes next Tuesday and Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One.
