Why did Toni leave Girlfriends?
Toni left after season six – just two seasons short of when Girlfriends finished.
In the show Toni left to move forward with her partner after a custody fight over their child.
The reason for Toni's departure was that actress Jill Marie Jones didn't want to renew her contract.
She was contracted for six seasons and had said she felt it was a good time to go and try other things, one being movies.
Jill told Essence: "I left because I wanted to do movies.
"My contract was up after my sixth season and people forget that just like the network can choose whether or not to renew your contract, I can also choose and evaluate whether or not I want to come back.
She added: "There’s so much more I want to do in my career and so much more I want to know and learn, but my departure definitely had nothing to do with money."
Who plays Antoinette "Toni" Marie Childs-Garrett in Girlfriends?
Toni is played by American actress Jill Marie Jones.
Jill formerly worked as a dancer and cheerleader, but she is best known for playing Toni.
She's since starred in American Horror Story and Black-ish through guest roles.
Girlfriends' Tracee Ellis Ross is the face of Black-ish too, so the former co-stars reunited for an episode.
What is Girlfriends about?
Girlfriends is about a group of four female best friends – Joan, Maya, Lynn and Toni – living in Los Angeles.
The show saw these characters deal with their love lives, families, careers and relationships with one another.
Part of the plot looked at how different the character's backgrounds were and how this affected their relationships.

Why was Girlfriends cancelled?
Girlfriends ran from 2000 to 2008 and even had a spin-off series called The Game.
However, the show came to an abrupt end reportedly due to it being too expensive to continue.
This was during the 2007-2008 Writers Guild of America strike, which saw large numbers of writers go on strike to demand better pay.
Some American shows were affected during this time, with Girlfriends most likely being one.
Ratings had decreased by the final series of Girlfriends which is another reason as to why it wasn't renewed.
Fans were gutted that the series didn't have proper closure.
