Will Smith Could Play Peter Parker's Uncle Ben in a Marvel/Sony Origin Story

Will Smith is one of the biggest names and faces in Hollywood. The talented actor, as many people already know, was born and raised in West Philadelphia.

Smith decided he wasn’t interested in going to college and instead started working on his career as a rapper. “Girls Ain’t Nothing But Trouble” and “Parents Just Don’t Understand” were two of the hits Smith produced with DJ Jazzy Jeff.

However, after a pretty successful start, Smith found himself at the center of a deal with NBC. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air premiered in 1990, and the trajectory of Smith’s acting career seemed to take a fast track route. More recently, the star has been in the headlines and media as a result of ongoing drama with his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

The couple has appeared to have smooth things out, but many people are still curious about Smith and what his next project will be. Though there has been some chatter and speculation, first, take a look back at some of his most popular roles.

A look back at Will Smith’s most memorable acting roles

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air definitely seemed to put Smith on the map. After six successful and hilarious seasons, Smith decided to step into the film industry. Bad Boys and Men in Black are two of the hit-movies that he appeared in after the popular NBC sitcom came to an end. Both of these productions went on to have sequels.

Ironically enough, this past winter it was announced that Bad Boys 4 will be in the works, and, of course, Smith will be contributing.

Wild Wild West is another well-known film Smith was cast in during the late 1990s. Many people can probably remember when he appeared as Chris Gardner in The Pursuit of Happyness.

His passion for acting is compelling. Audiences everywhere were able to enjoy his take on the Genie in the newest Aladdin. Movie after movie, Smith continued to impress his fans and viewers.

What are Marvel fans saying about Will Smith?

It is no secret that Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans have been less than pleased with the timelines of films and productions that were paused or delayed due to the ongoing global pandemic. More than ever, these fans and viewers are turning to discussion boards to discuss possible ideas and theories.

That is exactly what happened in this Quora thread that focuses on Will Smith and his chances of ever being cast in an MCU film. Some people may be surprised to learn that some fans think Smith would be a good fit for one of the Spider-Man movies.

More specifically, the discussion highlighted that Uncle Ben, Peter Parker’s uncle, might be the best role for Smith to take on in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This could be due to the fact that so many people enjoy it when Smith takes on fatherly or parental roles.

One fan explained: “Just give him dad roles, with a comedic note to the side. Will Smith is a good dad, a great dad.”

In the thread, the users were able to make some really excellent points about how this could exactly work, and they didn’t let any detail slip by.

Could Will Smith play Peter Parker’s Uncle Ben?

Many people are probably quick to point out the flaws of the logistics of this potential casting situation. Would the storyline still be feasible and make sense if Peter Parker’s uncle was not white like himself? With the help of MCU fans and viewers, in short, it absolutely could.

One individual posted, “Wait, you ask but Peter is white Caucasian, and (obviously) his father was too…. now Ben, being his father’s brother, needs to be white. I argue not necessarily so. See, Ben was adopted by Richard Parker’s parents when they where little.”

It seems like the ultimate and perfect way to go.

Not to mention, this could really benefit Disney and Sony since they have been focusing their efforts to create more diverse characters.

Another comment read: “With Marvel/Disney attempting to diversify their characters I could see them trying to slide the above into a later Origin story. ‘Spider-Man: Broken Home.’ The problem? The only one that could do it right is Feige, and Sony/Disney have splitsville.”

Regardless of how it pans out, it definitely seems like fans and viewers are interested in Smith making an MCU appearance.
