Local news outlets say the man was brought on a jet-ski to land where attempts were made to revive him, but he died of his injuries.

Beaches in the area have been closed and a “new shark culling campaign is already scheduled”, The French Pacific Journal reported.

A 49-year-old woman was seriously injured after she was bitten by a bull shark at the same beach on January 29.

She has since been treated in an Australian hospital.

More to come.
