BORIS Johnson could travel to the US next month to meet Donald Trump for the G7 summit.
The Prime Minister's plans were outlined in a Downing Street briefing taking place today.
Trump has already cancelled the planned summer G7 meeting but said yesterday he was reconsidering changing the date so world leaders could meet face-to-face in Washington.
No10 said yesterday Mr Johnson would "follow guidelines" surrounding travel in the current coronavirus climate.
It is not clear if the PM would be forced to quarantine for two weeks following his return under the latest UK travel advice.
Travel restrictions are currently in place for passengers from Europe – home to four of the G7 nations.
And earlier this week, the US and Canada agreed to keep their shared border closed to non-essential travel until June 21.
But Trump wants to plough ahead with the summit, which was scheduled to be held on June 10, as it would be a “great sign to all” of things returning to normal during the pandemic.
He tweeted: "Now that our country is ‘Transitioning back to Greatness’, I am considering rescheduling the G7, on the same or similar date, in Washington DC, at the legendary Camp David.
"The other members are also beginning their comeback.
“It would be a great sign to all – normalisation!”
It comes after Trump revealed this month that Boris had called him to say he feared for his life as he battled coronavirus in intensive care.
Speaking to the US President via phone, he said he "thought it was over".
Mr Trump told Fox News: "[Boris Johnson] thought it was over.
"It was vicious. He's a great guy and he made it."
He added Boris had the "ultimate first-hand experience" and called him a "victim of what happened".
