Brit, 55, found fully dressed on surfboard off Marbella claims he fell from cruise ship and spendt 3 days adrift

A BRITISH man was rescued at sea fully dressed on a surfboard after telling officials he spent three days adrift after falling off a cruise ship.

The 55-year-old was picked up by coastguards off the Costa del Sol resort of Marbella yesterday afternoon.

Crew members on a yacht called Estelar who alerted rescuers after spotting him said he was fully dressed and was claiming in a conversation they had when they neared him to have spent several days at sea after falling off a boat.

Local reports late last night night described the man as British and the vessel as a cruise ship, which has yet to be identified.

He is said to have told coastguards sent to his rescue that the accident had happened three days earlier.

Coastguard vessel Salvamar Vega took him to Estepona Port so a waiting ambulance could take him to a local health centre to be treated for hypothermia.

His exact whereabouts last night was unknown.

Police, who could not be reached for comment, are expected to question him about his ordeal as soon as he is better.

It if the Brit was on holiday in Spain or lived abroad.

The rescue, which is starting to be reported in Spanish press, has fuelled a wave of speculation about how the mystery man ended up on a surfboard.

One social media user said: “I’m intrigued about this story, because finding a surfboard while you’re lost at sea would be even stranger than falling off a boat with the surfboard.”

Another added: “What’s the story, that they threw the surfboard to him when he fell instead of rescuing him?”

In 2018, a British air hostess survived 10 hours floating at sea reportedly jumped off the cruise ship after a drunken row with her boyfriend.

Kay, an air hostess, plunged into the sea from the cruise ship as it sailed to Venice from the port of Vargarola near Pula, Croatia.

The 46-year-old then spent 10 hours floating at sea – later crediting her yoga training with keeping her fit enough to survive.
