Detroit Lions star Marvin Jones sobs on sidelines after his baby son dies ‘suddenly’ – The Sun

NFL star Marvin Jones sobbed on the sidelines during his team’s game after the “sudden death” of his six-month-old baby son.

The Detroit Lions wide receiver paid tribute to his youngest, Marlo, by dressing his four other kids in jerseys emblazoned with the boy’s name.

Jones had tears in his eyes as a sweet picture of smiling baby Marlo flashed up on the big screen at the Lions game on Sunday.

He had announced the news of his son’s passing on social media, saying the “Lord called home a piece of my family’s heart”.

“It is hard to believe that our little angel, our fighter from day one, our son ‘Marlito’ has unfortunately passed away and is no longer here with us,” Jones wrote on Instagram.

“Marlo, the joy that you brought to us everyday, with that smile, and that energy was like heaven on earth.

Marlito, todavía no puedo creer que no estés acá con nosotros, pero estás allá arriba mirándonos con esta sonrisa. EL MUNDO te ama hijo.TE AMO HIJO… Mi corazón… Pa Siempre!

Yesterday the Lord called home a piece of my family’s heart, Marlo. It is hard to believe that our little angel, our fighter from day one, our son “Marlito” has unfortunately passed away and is no longer here with us. Marlo, the joy that you brought to us everyday, with that smile, and that energy was like heaven on earth. You will always be in our hearts. We will always remember you. We did not get the chance to hear your first words (It would’ve been in Spanish too) ☺️. We didn’t get to see you run with your brothers and sister, you ran with them with your eyes everyday. We know that everything that We do from here on out will be with you. Every step we take, you will be with us. Whenever we have a bad day, We will think of your smile. We miss you already buddy and will forever love you. Rest peacefully our sweet baby boy. You have gained your wings ????

The dad-of-five, who is fluent in Spanish, reflected on the milestones he would never be able to share with little Marlo.

“We did not get the chance to hear your first words (It would’ve been in Spanish too).

“We didn’t get to see you run with your brothers and sister, you ran with them with your eyes everyday.”

He added: “We miss you already buddy and will forever love you.

“Rest peacefully our sweet baby boy. You have gained your wings.”

Shortly before his son’s death, Jones shared a video of his entire family together for the holidays.

“Merry Christmas,” the family says in the clip, as one of the sportsman's older children sits with Marlo on his lap.

“Merry Christmas & Many Blessings to all from the Jones’,” he captioned the clip.

Marvin and his wife Jazmyn also share sons Marvin III, Mareon and Murrell as well as daughter Mya.

Despite the tragic loss, Jones took his whole family to watch the Detroit Lions take on the Green Bay Packers at Ford Field.

They stood on the sidelines while Ford Field honored them in a moment of silence.

When running back Kerryon Johnson scored a touchdown late in the second quarter, he honored Jones by emulating the star’s touchdown celebration.

Jones shared a picture of his family at the game on Instagram.

“I still can't believe you're not here with us, but you're up there looking at us with this smile,” he captioned the image.

“THE WORLD LOVES YOU SON. I LOVE YOU SON … My heart … Pa Forever!”
