Devastating early morning inferno kills ‘mom and 6 children’ trapped in home despite dad’s rescue attempt – The Sun

A MOM and six kids have been killed in a devastating early morning house fire in Mississippi, according to reports.

The blaze tore through the home in the small town of Clinton at around 12.30am, Clinton Fire Chief Jeff Blackledge told local news outlets.

The inferno claimed the lives of seven people – an adult aged 33 and six children – Blackledge confirmed.

The youngest victim was just a year old, authorities said.

The names of those killed were not immediately released.

But the group have now been identified as a mother and kids, according to local reporter Ross Adams of WAPT.

The children’s father desperately battled in vain to save his family, WJTV’s Lanaya Lewis tweeted.

He is understood to have made it out of the house with minor injuries, according to the reporter.

Mark Jones, Director of Communications with the City of Clinton, told WLBT: “He was worried and concerned.

“He did not want to leave the scene… He was very concerned about his family.”

The cause of the fire is not known at this time, but the age of the 69-year-old home may be a factor, Jones added.

He said: “We ask for your prayers for this family, this father, as well as the firemen with Clinton Fire Department who had to see this as well.”
