Gucci are mocked for copying infamous criminal’s face tattoo

Gucci are mocked for copying infamous criminal who went viral with his DEVAST8 face tattoo in their latest catwalk show

  • Last week, Alessandro Michele’s Gucci Cruise wardrobe was paraded in Rome
  • Twitter went into meltdown as models appeared to be inspired by DEVAST8
  • The Italian brand used the words ‘Amore’, ‘Roma’ and ‘Gucci’ instead, however

A high fashion brand seems to have taken inspiration from a lowly criminal in their latest collection.

Last week, Alessandro Michele’s Gucci Cruise 2020 wardrobe was paraded in Rome’s hilltop Capitoline Museum and it bore a striking resemblance to ‘DEVAST8’ – a New Zealand man with his moniker tattooed across his mouth.

Twitter went into meltdown as several models stepped onto the catwalk with similar scribings on their faces, with the difference being that the words used were ‘Amore’, ‘Roma’ and ‘Gucci’.

DEVAST8 went viral in 2017 when he complained to media in his home country that he couldn’t find work work because of the tattoo he got while drunk in jail.

The man’s real name is Mark Cropp and he was most recently convicted of assaulting and threatening a pregnant woman, according to the New Zealand Herald.

Cropp, 21, also appeared in court in February in the district of Papakura, New Zealand with a bumbag with the word Devast8 penned in block letters on the waist strap.

A week after admitting his assault on a pregnant woman, he pleaded guilty in another court to charges of presenting a firearm during a fight. The court heard the firearm was an imitation.

Twitter is now awash with his name again as one of the world’s top brands seems to have taken inspiration from him.

Gilda Kirkpatrick tweeted: ‘Oh, did Gucci just copied [sic] our ‘DEVAST8′ guy in their autumn show? Go #DEVAST8 dude, you’ve made an impact on the fashion front.’

Gucci was mocked online for appearing to pay homage to the infamous petty criminal

‘Oh Gucci…. wonder if they realised he assaulted a pregnant woman and will soon be sentenced for that…’ said Anna Leask, a crime reporter at the New Zealand Herald.

Another user sarcastically tweeted his congratulations to Mr Cropp, saying: ‘What about our very own Devast8, one of NZ’s finest petty criminals who is influencing the new season of Gucci fashion. Well done Mark.’

Gucci was forced to apologise earlier this year when the brand was heavily criticised for selling a wool jumper that resembled black face.

The turtleneck black wool balaclava jumper, which sold for around £700, featured a pair of large red lips around a model’s actual lips, with the neck part pulled up over her nose.
