Last-minute tickets to England's Euro final match selling for £70,000

Last-minute tickets to England’s Euro final clash with Italy are being sold for £70,000 for a pair on eBay as fans are warned to avoid buying through unofficial channels

Fans desperate to watch tonight’s Euro 2020 final are looking at prices of upwards of £70,000 on some websites, as Three Lions supporters look to watch England’s first major international final in 55 years.

The scramble for tickets look set to continue right up until the 8pm kickoff for England’s once-in-a-generation clash with Italy.

But with stadium capacity still capped at approximately 60,000 seats, the rush for tickets was taken online where some touts reportedly marked up prices by more than 1500%.

A screenshot from eBay earlier today showed one pair of category two seats being sold on the online marketplace for £70,000.

Meanwhile on specialist resale websites such as LiveFootball tickets and Ticombo prices spanned from £1,500 to upwards of £15,000. On Facebook Marketplace, one fan tried flogging his tickets for £7,000 each.

With just hours to go until kick off, Three Lions supporters still appeared desperate to cheer on their heroes from the Wembley stands.

That’s despite the fact opportunistic ticket touts look set to make profits of up to £25,000 from their resale prices. 

Although tickets quickly sold out, a category A seat became available at 2pm for around £810, and was snapped up almost immediately.  

Tickets for England’s eagerly anticipated sporting event in 50 years were last night changing hands for up to £15,000. Wembley will welcome a crowd of 65,000, of whom just 6,000 will be cheering on Italy. 

MailOnline previously found tickets selling for tens of thousands of pounds on so-called ‘touting’ websites the day after the semi-final triumph over Denmark.

Although tickets quickly sold out, a category A seat became available at 2pm for around £810, and was snapped up almost immediately.

Consumer specialist publication Which? has been warning fans throughout the tournament to avoid unofficial ticket channels.

Expert Adam French told LBC: ‘Even though some of these websites claim to offer tickets from ‘100 per cent’ trusted sellers, this is often not the case.

‘If you’re not lucky enough to get your hands on a ticket through the official website you might be better off saving your cash and making plans to watch Gareth Southgate and the lads take on Italy with family and friends at home or in the pub.

‘If you insist on trying your luck and buying tickets for the match from an unofficial seller, make sure to pay with a credit card for purchases over £100 so you stand a better chance of getting a refund if things go wrong.’

Even the tournament’s official organiser, UEFA, has waded in to deter fans who might be considering the astronomical prices. 

A spokesperson explained: ‘Uefa will not hesitate to take action (including cancelling tickets) where such unauthorised offers are identified and take legal proceedings against third parties involved in the unauthorised resale of tickets, as we have done in the past.’

Earlier today, England fans were pictured going wild as they clambered onto buses, packed out pubs and set off flares in King’s Cross and Leicester Square before the Three Lions fight Italy for the Euro 2020 Championship in the national side’s biggest game for more than half a century.

Supporters sporting the team’s red and white and singing Football’s Coming Home and Sweet Caroline crammed into pubs as an estimated 35 million people tune in to watch the once-in-a-generation clash on TV while 60,000 spectators cheer on Gareth Southgate’s men later today.

Crowds of fans draped in England flags arrived outside Wembley, the Home of Football, several hours before kick-off. 

Thousands of supporters have flocked in from all corners of the country, desperate to cheer England’s heroes into eternal glory should they lift the Henri Delaunay trophy tonight. 

Some even climbed on top of a bus outside the grounds, while others outside King’s Cross station in the capital let off red and white smoke during the celebratory build-up.
