Liberals turn on ex-Obama adviser-turned-CNN star Van Jones for saying Trump 'doesn't get enough credit'

LIBERALS want CNN star Van Jones SACKED for championing the “good things” done by Donald Trump.

The ex-Obama adviser stunned a presidential debate panel by praising Trump for doing “good stuff for the black community”.

His unexpected remarks came after CNN anchor Jake Tapper criticized the president’s boast that “not since Abraham Lincoln has anybody done what I have done for the black community.”

Tapper blasted: “Eight in ten black Americans believe that Trump is a racist, according to a Washington Post/Ipsos poll earlier this year.

“Why does the president make comments like that instead of acknowledging that he has said things that seem insensitive but he wants to work on it?”

Van Jones then stunned Tapper by airing some praise for Trump.

He replied: "I think it's really unfortunate because Donald Trump – and I get beat up by liberals every time I say it – but I keep saying it, he has done good stuff for the black community.

"[For example] opportunity zone stuff, black college stuff.

"I worked with him on criminal stuff.

"I saw Donald Trump have African American people – formerly incarcerated – in the White House, embraced them, treated them well.

"There is a side to Donald Trump that I think he does not get enough credit for.”

But this prompted fury on Twitter, with people urging CNN to sack the commentator.

One slammed Jones for being "an idiot" while another said he "needs to go".

Jones added that Trump isn't praised for helping the black community as "he also says the most incendiary stuff" and "retweets white nationalists".

After the first controversial presidential debate, Trump was widely slammed for not clearly condemning white supremacist groups and their role in violence in some American cities this summer.

Trump raised hackles by suggesting to one far-right extremist group, "Proud Boys, stand back and stand by."

Jones told the CNN panel on Friday that Trump "also says the most incendiary stuff.

"He retweets white nationalists, and he violates the number one rule of blackness, which is, 'I don’t mess with people who mess with people I don’t mess with'."

Jones added: "In other words, 'I’m not friends with people who are friends of my enemies'.

"The Black community can appreciate some of the stuff that he's done.

"But when they see him playing footsie on Twitter with these white nationalists organizations, it just wipes it all out.

"So if they have had a disciplined strategy of being a consistent ally with the black community and being an enemy of the White nationalists, we'd be in a very different spot.

"And that's the tragedy of these mixed messages from the Trump White House."

During the final debate, Joe Biden attacked Trump over his boast that no president since Abraham Lincoln has helped black people more than he has.

"Abraham Lincoln here is one of the most racist presidents we've had in modern history,” Biden said, referencing Trump.

He added: “He pours fuel on every single racist fire. Every single one.”

Trump responded: "He made a reference to Abraham Lincoln, where did that come in?"

"You said you're Abraham Lincoln," Biden bit back.

Trump replied: "No, no. I didn't say 'I'm Abraham Lincoln'.

"I said, 'Not since Abraham Lincoln has anybody done what I've done for the black community'."
