Mum & daughter rushed to hospital after being mauled by dog while shopping | The Sun

A MUM and her daughter were rushed to hospital after they were attacked by a dangerous dog while out shopping.

Vicky Rafferty, 35, and little Evie-Louise Mannion were at a retail park in Coventry when they were savaged on Monday.

The pair had been looking at shop windows when Evie-Louise was bitten by a German shepherd.

Vicky tried desperately to drag her daughter, seven, from the dog's jaws – before the animal turned on her too.

She has now told of her anger and distress after the horror, which happened at the Gallagher Retail Park between 4.30pm and 5pm on June 6.

"We were walking along and it literally just attacked my daughter Evie-Louise," she told the Coventry Telegraph.

"It pulled her to the floor. Luckily, she pulled her hands up to her face but she got bites to her arms – it’s a mess.

"It grabbed her by her foot and pulled her to the ground and carried on biting her from her shoulder to just past her elbow. The dog just wasn’t letting go."

Vicky desperately kicked the dog in the face four times before it began to attack her.

"I was pulling my daughter by her legs, anything to get her away from that dog," she said.

The owner had the dog, six, on a harness – but stood "no chance" of dragging it off, Vicky said.

"I managed to get it off my daughter by kicking it in the face," she said.

"I was screaming, 'Get my daughter away, get my daughter away'.

"It let go of her after four kicks to the face. Then it got hold of me. I was on the floor and it was biting me."

Vicky suffered bites to her hip and the top of her leg. She fainted twice after the owner finally wrestled the dog off her.

HORROR ATTACK

"I was fighting it on the floor," she said.

"I had a big padded coat on and it tore through that."

Both she and her daughter were taken to hospital for more treatment and tetanus shots.

"It literally was the worst day of my life," said Vicky.

"I had to get sleeping tablets from my doctor and when I do go off I have flashbacks."

Evie-Louise has been left "deeply traumatised" and suffered severe shoulder pain, she added.

"She’s not sleeping well and crying and shouting in her sleep at night – 'mum, mum, please, please'," she said.

"She’s off school for the week, on antibiotics and still got an open wound."

Cops have seized the dog. It will be assessed by experts who will decide if it's safe to return home.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We were called to Gallagher Retail Park in Coventry on Monday to reports a child had been bitten by a dog.
