One dead and nine injured after ‘two knifemen’ rampage through French city of Lyon – as police arrest man while officers hunt second

One person has died and at least nine others are injured after a stabbing spree in the French city of Lyon this afternoon. 

Two men, one armed with a knife and the other with a large meat fork, carried out the attack near the Laurent-Bonnevay metro station in the city’s Villeurbanne region. 

Of those injured three are believed to have been seriously wounded, while six more have suffered minor injuries. 

Police have arrested one man and are hunting another who managed to flee from the scene.

Video shared on Twitter appeared to show one of the suspects being held by passers-by. 

An AFP journalist at the scene witnessed a body being taken away in an ambulance and traces of blood on the ground. 

The city’s Metro A train network shut down in the immediate aftermath of the incident.
