Piers Morgan accuses MP David Lammy of spreading 'fake news' after he shared old video of Boris Johnson being pelted by mob

PIERS Morgan has accused Labour MP David Lammy of spreading “fake news” after he posted a four-year old video of Boris Johnson.

Staunch remainer Lammy posted the clip on Twitter of the Prime Minister being pelted with missiles at the Tory Party conference in Manchester in 2015.

The video shows angry protesters launch plastic balls at Johnson as he is ushered through a metal arch by cops.

But Lammy posted the footage today during this year’s Conservative conference with the message: “Boris Johnson as popular as ever” – but no reference to its age.

GMB host Piers Morgan, who has a tense online relationship with the politician, blasted the message and forced Lammy to delete the video.

Morgan retweeted the post and hit out: “That video is from 2015, so this is not only fake news, but also a very hypocritical way for a Labour MP to respond to a politician being attacked in this way.

“If it was one of your colleagues, Mr Lammy, you'd go nuts.”

That video is from 2015, so this is not only fake news, but also a very hypocritical way for a Labour MP to respond to a politician being attacked in this way. If it was one of your colleagues, Mr Lammy, you'd go nuts.

An hour after posting the tweet Lammy backed down and deleted the post but stopped short of apologising.

He said: This was not intended to be an endorsement but simply an indication of the Prime Minister's unpopularity.

“On reflection I can see you are right and that it could come across differently, so I will be deleting the tweet.”

Many people backed Morgan in arguing it was hypocritical of Mr Lammy to condone the throwing of missiles at elected politicians.

One punter wrote: “So you support politicians being attacked in this manner, yet you cry your eyes out about inflammatory language.

“Do you even see how foolish you look?”

Another said: “David Lammy implicitly condoning attacking MPs here.”

Another added: “An old video but it's good to know you condone this type of abuse.

TWITTER FEUD

“I assume if it happens to Corbyn you'll be just as vocal about how unpopular he is. Them are the rules, no?”

The pair were involved in yet another online spat at the weekend as they exchanged tweets over the use of inflammatory language to describe Brexit.

The MP has slammed the PM for dubbing the Benn Act – which binds the UK's hands from exiting the EU without a deal – the 'surrender bill'.

But GMB host and BGT judgeMorgan asked: “Hi David, was it equally divisive when you accused Brexiters of surrender, in a House of Commons speech?”

The MP replied: “I did not accuse Brexiteers of surrendering. I said a Brexit deal surrenders our voting rights in the EU institutions.

“Which is undeniably true. Your both sides equivalence towards a Number 10 dismissing and legitimating threats of violence against MPs is sick.”

Morgan hit back: “You find everything you disagree with ‘sick’.

“Your language is the most extreme & emotive of any Parliamentarian, which given the competition from many of your Labour colleagues is quite something.

“Try cooling your own rhetorical jets, Mr Lammy, before lecturing everyone else.”
