Terrifying moment a deadly snake's head writhes around flashing its fangs after family decapitates it with tree loppers

THIS jaw-dropping video shows the head of a decapitated snake baring its fangs and twisting on the floor.

The cottonmouth water moccasin can be seen working its jaw and attempting to roll over despite the head being lopped off by a garden implement.

It was posted to Facebook by Jill-Scott Mollett from Sunnyvale, Texas, after her two young daughters found the deadly serpent in the family's garden.

She wrote: "So the girls found a cottonmouth water moccasin today, in our flower bed of all places.

"We didn't have a knife close to us, so Avery chopped it's head off with some tree loppers.

"The girls' favorite part was when the head kept trying to bite stuff for a few minutes after it was chopped off its body."

However, the astonishing video split opinions among viewers.

One wrote: "They didn't have to kill it. They were not protecting their family, the snake was in a garden.

"If you're in warm climate places, knowing there are venomous snakes, maybe you should look into ways to safely remove the snake and relocate it.

"You can also call someone to do it for you. But resorting right to killing something because it can be dangerous is stupid."

But others defended the mum's actions. One said: "These snakes are dangerous and could have killed one of those kids.
