Two men arrested 'after storming mosque with knife' in South Wales

TWO men have been arrested after they allegedly tried to storm into the ladies' section of a mosque with a knife in South Wales overnight.

Emergency services rushed to the Dar Ul Isra Mosque in Cardiff about 1am on Sunday.

Initial reports suggested a man allegedly tried to access the ladies' section of mosque in Cardiff with a large knife.

Police then rushed to the scene, making a number of arrests.

In a statement, the mosque said: "An incident took place at 1:30am on Sunday 2nd June at Dar Ul Isra community centre in Cardiff.

"Nobody from the mosque was injured and the police have arrested the two individuals who were involved.

"The police are now dealing with this situation and continuing their investigations.

"We thanks South Wales Police for their swift response."

About four police cars were seen at the mosque.

South Wales Police confirmed Park Place Cathays had been closed after a "serious incident".

They said the incident was being handled by officers, adding: "Buses are currently being redirected to the Hilton hotel.

"Cathays train station is also closed with no trains stopping at Cathays."
