What is Harvey Weinstein’s prison sentence and how long will he be in jail? – The Sun

HARVEY Weinstein is a convicted sex offender and disgraced movie mogul who may spend the rest of his life in prison.

Here is more on the 68-year-old predator and how long he will be behind bars.

What was Harvey Weinstein accused of?

Weinstein has been accused of sexual misconduct by dozens of women – and was found guilty of sexually assaulting two of them earlier this year.

It was announced Tuesday that Weinstein and his former studio’s board have reached a $19 million settlement with many of his accusers.

Former employees of The Weinstein Company, who “experienced a hostile work environment, sexual harassment and gender-based discrimination,” are eligible for part of the compensation fund.

"Harvey Weinstein and The Weinstein Company failed their female employees," said New York Attorney General Letitia James in a statement.

"After all the harassment, threats, and discrimination, these survivors are finally receiving some justice."

How many women accused him of sexual assault and rape?

It is believed that at least 100 women have accused Weinstein of sexual misconduct, and many of them say they were raped or sexually assaulted by the former film producer.

A jury found him guilty of forcibly performing oral sex on ex-Project Runway staffer Miriam Mimi Haleyi in 2006 and raping hairstylist Jessica Mann in 2013.

It has also been alleged that Weinstein blacklisted many of the women who have accused him of misconduct.

Actress Rose McGowan said that Weinstein raped her and derailed her career.

Director Peter Jackson said the mogul discouraged him from casting Mira Sorvino and Ashley Judd in his films.

Both actresses say they were harassed by Weinstein.

“His defiance and lack of humility remain intractable at this stage,” Judd told The Cut before Weinstein was convicted.

“I would welcome someone who has aggressed who wants to learn and make it right.”

Weinstein refused to apologize to his victims after he was found guilty and said he was sorry for all the men going through "this crisis right now."

He planned to open a sex addiction center to be run by women to help restore his image, according to court documents.

The once-powerful Weinstein had a net worth of $300million at the peak of his career.

What is the #MeToo movement?

The phrase was coined in 2006 by activist Tarana Burke to empower and encourage women, but then it received a rebirth more than a decade later when allegations surfaced about Weinstein.

"If you’ve been sexually harassed or assaulted write 'me too' as a reply to this tweet," actress Alyssa Milano wrote on October 15, 2017.

The tweet was attached to a note: "Me too."

"Suggested by a friend: 'If all the women who have been sexually harassed or assaulted wrote 'Me too.' as a status, we might give people a sense of the magnitude of the problem."

Hundreds of people responded to the tweet, including actresses such as Emmy Rossum, Mia Farrow, Jennifer Esposito, Kristin Davis, Nia Vardalos, Anika Noni Rose, Viola Davis, and Marcia Cross.

The emergence of the #MeToo movement has helped countless sexual assault survivors come forward.

What is Weinstein's sentence?

Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison in March for the crimes he committed against Haleyi and Mann.

His legal team had asked for the minimum five-year term, and Weinstein later said he was "confused" by the lengthy sentence.

It could turn out to be a life sentence for the disgraced mogul – Weinstein will not be eligible for parole for 20 years.

Weinstein was rushed to the hospital with chest pains soon after he was sentenced.

Prosecutors had asked Judge James Burke to sentence Weinstein to near the maximum of 29 years in prison.

Weinstein also faces sexual assault charges in Los Angeles and may be extradited to the West Coast.

While behind bars he contracted coronavirus.

Who are Weinstein’s children?

Weinstein has a total of five children.

He has three daughters with first wife Eve Chilton: Lily (also known as Remy), Emma and Ruth.

Weinstein later married Georgina Chapman and they had two children together – 9-year-old India Pearl and Dashiell, now seven.

Chapman divorced Weinstein after the allegations surfaced.
