When can driving tests and lessons resume in the UK?

There has been no official update given as to when driving tests and lessons will be able to resume again.

Driving tests were suspended for up to 3 months from March 20, 2020, due to the coronavirus lockdown.

You can apply for an emergency test if you’re a critical worker.

Due to the strict social distancing rules in place, you also won’t be able to take lessons with a DVSA-approved instructor.

Am I eligible for a refund if I have a test or lessons booked?

You are eligible for a refund if you have a driving test booked.

To cancel your test and get a refund, you will have to email [email protected].

Alternatively, it will be re-booked for a new date, according to gov.uk

It has not been made clear if you can get a refund for lessons that you have already pre-booked.

Driving School Red have said that they will be prioritising the allocation of any space in its instructors’ diaries, to those Red customers who have pre-paid for lessons in advance, when they are allowed to re-open.

How will social distancing work?

Social distancing will be difficult to implement in a car as both the instructor and learner have to be in close proximity.

It is likely, to keep safe, that the correct PPE, such as face masks and gloves will have to be worn during lessons.

Door handles and steering wheels will have to be cleaned regularly.

Instructors may start taking contactless payments only, as it has been proven that the virus can be transferred via cash.
