A heavily pregnant mother has revealed her shocking injuries after she was viciously attacked by a love rival – who managed to avoid jail over the assault.

Shannon O’Brien, 26, was 33 weeks pregnant when violent Siobhan Hood, 25, knocked on her door in Peterborough on January 14 last year.

Hood pretended she was with the police in order to get pregnant Ms O’Brien to open the door – before viciously punching and kicking her onto the floor.

The attack was only stopped when a friend of Ms O’Brien’s – who was around for dinner – came to her aid and called 999.

After being rushed to hospital, Ms O’Brien and her baby were given the all clear. She gave birth to a healthy boy, Alfie, on March 20, last year just weeks after the attack.

Hood was sentenced to 15 months in prison suspended for two years at Peterborough Crown Court on May 10 this year. She was also ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.

Speaking now, Ms O’Brien revealed how the motivation for the attack had come from when she unknowingly became involved in a relationship with Hood’s boyfriend in 2014.

She said: ‘I did really feel for her at the time, we’d both been played by the same guy and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

‘But Siobhan just wouldn’t let it go. She somehow got hold of my number and would message me threats, eventually I just changed my number and she stopped.

‘That’s why it was such a shock to see her at my door that night. I couldn’t believe how vicious she could be to a heavily pregnant woman. And all these years later too, it’s crazy.

‘I’d have assumed that she might have moved on with her life, but to come after me all this time later is just madness to me.’

Ms O’Brien had been with the man for around three months when she found out he was also seeing Hood – who later emerged to be his long-term girlfriend.

Despite immediately dumping the lad in question Ms O’Brien had unintentionally made an enemy for life in Hood.

Recalling the night of the attack, she said: ‘I’d ordered a takeaway curry with my friend and I was looking forward to having a really nice night in stuffing my face in front of the TV.

‘So when the door bell rang I was quite excited to be getting my food and very shocked to see Siobhan and not the delivery driver.

‘She barged in and started attacking me right away.

‘I screamed at her to tell her I was pregnant and had a clearly-visible bump, but she didn’t care about that.

‘She burst into my house and after squashing me deliberately with the door then punched me in the face.

‘She knocked me right onto the floor and just carried on punching and kicking me. Then she started kicking me all over my body as I tried to cover my baby bump with my arms.

‘She was screaming “I told you I’d get you” as I begged her to stop. The attack felt like it lasted for hours.’

After the attack, medics assured the distressed mother that her baby was alright before insisting she spend a night on the ward for observation. She has now given birth (pictured with Alfie)

Ms O’Brien continued: ‘I just kept screaming for my unborn baby – with every kick I was terrified she’d kill him.

‘It was only when my friend came to my rescue and pushed her off me that she eventually ran off.

‘I was so shaken up, I didn’t care about myself at all I just couldn’t cope with the fact she might have harmed my baby.’

After being taken to Peterborough City hospital by ambulance doctors rushed Shannon, who was covered head to toe in scratches and bruising, for a sonogram.

Medics assured the distressed mother that her baby was alright before insisting she spend a night on the ward for observation, before being allowed home the next day.

Ms O’Brien said: ‘I’ve never quite got over that night, I had really bad anxiety for months afterwards which wasn’t ideal with a new baby.

‘My mum and dad had to stay round my house for weeks afterwards as I was just too scared to be alone.

‘It’s made me paranoid ever since and I’m always on high alert whenever the door bell goes.

‘Thankfully my little Alfie is doing really well and is a very happy 16-month-old boy.’
