‘Chemical alert’ at Jaguar Land Rover plant in Solihull as workers are ‘hosed down’ and taken to hospital

Workers at a Jaguar Land Rover plant were hosed down and taken to hospital after a ‘chemical alert’. 

Video showed ambulances and paramedics at the car manufacturing plant, in Lode Lane, Solihull, in the West Midlands, which employs around 10,000 people. 

The alleged chemical incident could have been caused by floor paint reacting with aluminium, Birmingham Live reported.

Local councillor Diane Donaldson told Birmingham Live : ‘Today I have had reports of an incident at Jaguar Land Rover in Solihull.

‘Workers are being hosed down and taken to hospital.

‘That’s all the information i can get. I’m hoping everyone is safe and nobody is taken ill. I’m going to contact JLR to see if I can get any further information.’

Sources told the Birmingham Mail a floor at the plant was freshly painted yesterday and has reacted with some dust and given off fumes.

 The plant employs around 10,000 people for the local area and 

One worker, who did not wish to be named, said: ‘No-one’s telling us anything and they ain’t sending us home.’ 

It is understood that neither the fire service or police have been called to the plant.
