FANS have been left confused as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's "racist royal" story appears to have changed a number of times.

In an interview with Oprah Winfrey Prince Harry and Meghan sparked a race row by alleging an unnamed member of the Royal Family spoke about their son's skin colour.

However since then, royal experts have noticed the story has been chopped and changed several times.

Now, behind palace walls, many are questioning the legitimacy of the claims.

It comes after the late Queen released a statement after the couple's interview saying "recollections may vary".

The Queen said the incendiary claims a member of the family raised concerns over the colour of Archie's skin would be investigated and "addressed privately".

Here we take a look at how exactly the "royal racist" story has changed…

BOMBSHELL OPRAH INTERVIEW

The orginal allegation was made in an interview with Oprah in March 2021.

When Meghan was asked by Oprah why the royal family didn’t want to make Archie a prince she said there were “concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born” and "what that would mean or look like".

She went on to say “ there were several conversations about it” with Harry -but refused to say who the ‘royal racist’ is as “it would be very damaging to them”.

Royal Family member ‘named as racist’ in translation of Omid Scobie’s Endgame

Meghan explained: “That was relayed to me from Harry. Those were conversations that family had with him.

"I think it was really hard to be able to see those as compartmentalised conversations.”

But when he was interviewed Harry appeared to contradict the duchess, saying it happened before the couple were married.

He said: “That conversation I’m never going to share, but at the time it was awkward. I was a bit shocked. No. I don’t. I’m not comfortable with sharing that.”

But he claimed the question posed was, “What will the baby look like?” or “What will the kids look like?”.

Harry said: “But that was right at the beginning, when she wasn’t going to get security, when my family were suggesting that she carries on acting, because there was not enough money to pay for her, and all this sort of stuff.

“There was real obvious signs before we even got married that this was going to be really hard.

‘NOT THE QUEEN’

Oprah later revealed that Harry insisted it wasn't the Queen or Prince Philip who expressed concern about Archie's skin colour.

Speaking to CBS, she said: "He did not share the identity with me but he wanted to make sure I knew, and if I had an opportunity to share it, that it was not his grandmother or grandfather that were part of those conversations.

"He did not tell me who was a part of those conversations."  

Royal expert Chris Ship also confirmed that the allegations did not stem from conversations with the Queen and Philip.

He told Good Morning Britain: "It was a conversation that Harry had with his family members.

"I should be clear here, I've been told it's not the Queen, and it's not the Duke of Edinburgh.”

HARRY'S U-TURN

While promoting his book, Harry sensationally denied ever accusing the Royal Family of being racist.

Harry told pal Tom Bradby in his 90-minute interview they never made a racism accusation.

Bradby had asked Harry to elaborate on the Oprah interview in which “you accused members of your family of racism”.

Millions of viewers were left open-mouthed when Harry replied: “No I didn’t.”

Even Bradby looked stunned as the Duke of Sussex passed the blame elsewhere, muttering: “The British press said that.”

Harry then dug an even bigger hole by asking Bradby: “Did Meghan ever mention that they’re racist?” Bradby repeated Meghan’s claim that there “troubling comments about Archie’s skin colour.”

Harry, promoting his book Spare, replied: “There was – there was concern about his skin colour.”

He was then asked: “Wouldn’t you describe that as essentially racist?”

Harry cryptically responded: “I wouldn’t, not having lived within that family.”

He interrupted Brady’s attempts to question further, and suggested it was "unconscious bias", not racism, and they can now "learn and grow" and be "part of the solution", instead of the problem.

He then repeated his previous claim that he will "never talk about" who made the comments about Archie’s skin colour.

LETTERS FROM THE KING

Earlier this year sources claimed Meghan wrote to King Charles over "racism" and bullying in the Royal Family, The Telegraph reports.

The King was said to be disappointed that Harry and Meghan felt the need to make such high-profile and damaging allegations.

Charles was the only senior member of the family to contact the Duchess after the interview, it is alleged.

Meghan, 41, is thought to have replied to Charles, saying she never intended to accuse the senior member of the family – who her letter allegedly names – of being a racist.

It is understood that both the King and the Duchess acknowledged that the individual’s remark was not made with malice.

The Duchess goes on to say she was only raising concerns of unconscious bias in The Firm before thanking Charles for his kind words, it is claimed.

ENDGAME

Royal author Omid Scobie’s book Endgame revealed that — in private letters she wrote to the King — Meghan named two members of the Royal Household she says took part in the “conversations”.

The identity of the pair has not been disclosed in the shock book after Scobie claimed he knows the names but laws prevent him from reporting who they are.

RACISTS 'NAMED'

Royal fans were left in shock yesterday when the Dutch translation of the book “accidentally named” a member of the Royal Family implying they are the racist.

It comes after Scobie bragged about having the inside scoop about who the royal racist is.

PUBLISHING 'ERROR'

Scobie, previously dubbed 'Meghan's mouthpiece' denied responsibility for the Dutch translation of his new book "accidentally naming” a member of the Royal Family. 

Publishers Xander Uitgevers yesterday said they were seeking to remove Scobie's work from bookshelves saying there had been an "error".

And, speaking to Dutch TV last night Scobie defended his book, saying: “The book is in several languages, and unfortunately I do not speak Dutch.

“But if there are translation errors, I’m sure the publishers will have under control.

“I wrote and edited the English version. There’s never been no version that I’ve produced that has names in it.”

It is unclear how the major error occurred.

Now thousands of copies of the books have been ordered to be destroyed in the Netherlands.

Despite claims the book was being taken off the shelves The Sun found it on sale at 5pm in Amsterdam yesterday.
