Chelsea icon Drogba not surprised by Abraham success as new star ‘learned from him’ in training – The Sun

CHELSEA icon Didier Drogba has revealed he's not surprised by Tammy Abraham's incredible success so far this season – as the new star "learned from him" in training.

The Blues legend, 41, has revealed the England youngster, 21, was also destined to succeed after learning from him in his youth.

Abraham has scored seven goals in his last three Premier League games after being given a chance under Frank Lampard.

But this is no surprise to Drogba, who has known Abraham since he joined as an Under-8s player. He revealed: "I've known [Abraham] since he's been like this.

"These are kids we used to see, they used to come and watch us training, and I believe they learned a little bit of our skills, how we read the game.

"So, you know, we're not surprised because I also trained with them when I used to train with the reserve team.

"It was always a moment for me to give away some skills, some knowledge, and they learnt really fast, really quick.

"So once again, I'm not surprised with what I've seen [with Abraham]."

FORWARD THINKING

Drogba also reserved special praise for new boss Lampard – suggesting the youth-first approach will reap the rewards in a very real way.

The Ivorian added: "I think [Lampard] is focusing on Chelsea and it happens that he needs to work on young players, to give them a chance.

"Being an ex-player from the club, it helps a lot because we've seen all these kids when we were training.
