Emmys 2019: ‘Pose’ Star Billy Porter Makes History With Big Win – See Full Winners

‘Fleabag’ continues adding more trophies to its already burgeoning collection after winning Outstanding Comedy Series, while ‘Game of Thrones’ takes home the prize for Outstanding Drama Series.

AceShowbiz -A history was made at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards, which was held on Sunday, September 22 at the Microsoft Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, California. That night, Billy Porter was named as the winner of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his performance on “Pose“. People cheered for his historic win as it marked the first openly gay black man to win the coveted category.

“I’m so overwhelmed that I’m so overjoyed to have lived long enough to see this day,” the Tony and Grammy Award-winning singer, composer, actor, playwright and director said during his speech. He continued, “James Baldwin says, ‘It took many years of vomiting up all the filth I’d been taught about myself, and half-believed, before I was able to walk on the earth like I had a right to be here.’ “

Meanwhile, “Ozark director and star Jason Bateman joined others as the winners at the 2019 event as he brought home the trophy for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series. Jodie Comer was later named as the best lead actress in a drama series for her performance on “Killing Eve“. She went to share a hug with co-star and fellow nominee Sandra Oh before taking the stage to accept the award.

“Fleabag” continued adding more trophies to its already burgeoning collections after winning Outstanding Comedy Series. One of the most prestigious categories, Outstanding Drama Series, meanwhile, went to “Game of Thrones” which aired its final season earlier this year. The award was added to its 12 trophies that the show had picked up with the technical wins at the Creative Arts Emmys earlier this month.
