What Will Happen to HGTV's 'Brady Bunch Renovation' House After the Finale?
Brady Bunch fans have been delightfully enjoying the most nostalgic thing on TV right now: A Very Brady Renovation on HGTV.
This unique show documents the process of fully renovating the original Brady Bunch house to closely resemble the original from the show. And it’s been no small feat considering that the inside of it was never used for filming — instead, during production of the Brady Bunch show, all of the interior action took place on the original Paramount Stage 5 set.
After HGTV purchased the Brady Bunch house last year, they immediately got to work planning the renovation, which is now in full swing. But fans can’t help but question: What will happen to the house when it’s completed?
The ‘Brady Bunch’ house is very special
It was a big deal when the original Brady Bunch house, which is located at 11222 Dilling Street, Studio City, California, went on the market for $1.8 million last year. The 2,477 square floor foot home features three bedrooms and three bathrooms, all set on a spacious (for the area) .29 acre lot. It was last purchased by George and Violet McCalister in 1973 for $61,000.
HGTV wasn’t the only interested party in the house — NSYNCsinger Lance Bass wanted to buy it, too. But the network obviously knew howmuch they had to gain from thenostalgia factor, because they ultimately won the bid and boughtthe property for $3.5 million.
The original ‘Brady Bunch’ kids are helping with renovations
The house is about to become very authentic thanks to the unique help producers are getting for the renovations. The entire cast of Brady kids including Mike Lookinland (Bobby), Susan Olsen (Cindy), Barry Williams (Greg), Maureen McCormick (Marcia), Christopher Knight (Peter) and Eve Plumb (Jan) teamed up for the first time in 15 years to help HGTV designers stick as close to the original house as possible.
It’s a special project for them, andit’s obvious they’re putting their hearts into getting the house exactly right.
Will there be ‘Brady Bunch’ house tours?
Unfortunately, no tours of the Brady Bunch house are being offered — yet. But one lucky winner will get the chance to “live like a Brady” after the house is completed. Fans shared 30- to 90-second video clips highlighting why they deserved a chance to stay in the house. The contest winner will stay in the house for six nights with six guests and live like a real Brady.
And after the show is over and the contest winner’s week is up? It’s still unclear exactly what will happen to the house. While some fans are hoping it will become a Brady Bunch museum with tours, that seems unlikely since its situated in a residential area and isn’t zoned properly for commercial use.
That leaves two options — either HGTV puts the house back on the market (Maybe call Lance Bass?) or they start renting it out on Airbnb or a similar home-sharing site. We’d guess that Brady Bunch fans would be lining up around the block for a chance to stay in the house!
