Stranger Things season 4 Netflix release date, cast, trailer, plot: When is it out?
Netflix and the Duffer Brothers have announced that Stranger Things season four is officially in the making, after the massive success of the third series. Teasing that the show will expand outside of Hawkins, Indiana, very little else is known yet about what could happen next. Express.co.uk has rounded up all of the information you need to know about the new renewal.
When will Stranger Things season 4 be released?
Stranger Things season four has officially been renewed but Netflix has not yet revealed a release date for the hugely popular show.
The exact date it could be out is also difficult to predict based on previous release dates for the show.
The first series was released on July 2016 with the second coming out just over a year later on October 2017 but viewers had to wait a little longer for the third series, which was finally released on July 4, 2019.
However, there have been rumours that filming could begin very soon.
According to Production Weekly, filming on the fourth series could begin filming as early as this October.
Who will star in Stranger Things season 4?
There have been no official announcements on cast yet, but many of the major stars are expected to return.
This includes Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Joe Keery as Steve Harrington and Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers.
Other actors expected to return include Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, Natalia Dyer as Nancy Byers, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers, Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield and Brett Gelman as Murray Bauman
The biggest question over the returning cast is whether David Harbour could be coming back as Jim Hopper.
The character was seemingly killed in third season finale, but many fans are hopeful that he could somehow still be alive.
Is there a trailer for Stranger Things season 4?
Netflix has released a short teaser announcing the series renewal across their social media pages, which you can see at the top of this page.
The short 45 second clip shows the Stranger Things logo in the Upside Down along with the tagline “We’re not in Hawkins anymore.”
Not much is given away, other than a ticking clocktower that fans have been speculating may be reminiscent of Big Ben.
Given that the last season saw Eleven (played by Millie Bobby Brown) and the Byers family move away from Hawkins, it seems highly possible that trouble could have followed them on their journey.
What will happen in Stranger Things season 4?
Aside from the hint that the latest season will be expanding outside of Hawkins, Indiana, there have been a few more clues about its potential direction.
This was teased by a mid-credits scene at the end of the third season that opened on a Russian laboratory in Kamchatka.
In the short scene, it was revealed that the Russians had a Demogorgan in their possession, as well as an American prisoner.
This scene caused major speculation about who this could be after Jim Hopper’s (David Harbour) devastating death in the season three finale.
Some fans have been speculating that it could be him if he had escaped into the Upside Down somehow, while others have wondered if it could be Dr Brenner (Matthew Modine) who is seemingly still alive.
The Duffer Brothers told Vanity Fair that this is likely to be the focus of the upcoming season.
They told the publication: “We want the post-credit scene to spark debate.
“Hopefully it raises a lot of questions, and the answers to those questions will define a potential season four.”
Stranger Things seasons 1-3 are available to stream on Netflix.
