Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper Appear Together in New Documentary About Mark Ronson

When Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper needed to produce new music for the soundtrack of A Star is Born, they sought out British producer Mark Ronson, a legend in the music industry. Gaga and Ronson collaborated with Andrew Wyatt of the indie pop band Miike Snow and Anthony Rossomando to create “Shallow,” one of Gaga’s biggest and best hits. Gaga and Cooper will reflect on their experiences with Ronson in the upcoming YouTube documentary, How to Be: Mark Ronson.

Harper’s Bazaar reported that in the clips of the documentary that have been released so far, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper gush over working with the producer. Gaga, who also collaborated with Ronson for her hit songs “Million Reasons” and “Perfect Illusion,” says that Ronson is “one of the greatest musicians and producers of our time.”

Cooper expresses the same sentiment, adding that he finds Ronson to be nerdy and cool at the same time. Gaga went on to discuss what it’s like working with Ronson, saying “It’s like we’re all chemists and then all of a sudden—kaboom—you’ve invented something new.” Other celebrities interviewed in the documentary include Sean Ono Lennon, the son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, as well as Boy George.

Lady Gaga’s other documentaries

Lady Gaga has appeared in a handful of documentaries about celebrities before. She has previously been in documentaries about Katy Perry, fashion designer Jeremy Scott, and pop crooner Tony Bennett, with whom she recorded an album of duets called Cheek to Cheek in 2014. The singer was also the subject of a Netflix documentary called Gaga: Five Foot Two. Fittingly, the latter film featured an appearance from Ronson.

Mark Ronson’s past and future

Ronson is certainly one of the most significant producers of the modern era. He rose to prominence in 2006 when he produced two of that year’s most significant albums: Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black and Christina Aguilera’s Back to Basics. Not only do the two albums have similar titles, they also had similar styles. Through his work with Winehouse and Aguilera, Ronson managed to merge the old and the new, cultivating a sound that owes as much to Phil Spector and the Ronettes as it does to Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre.

Both albums stand as the best in their artist’s respective discographies. Ronson then got the opportunity to work with Bruno Mars. For that album, Ronson helped to craft some of Mars’s most iconic hits, including “Locked Out of Heaven” and “Gorilla.” On that album, he continued to hone his mix of retro and contemporary influences.

In 2015, the producer released an album called Uptown Special. The most popular song from that album, “Uptown Funk,” featured Bruno Mars and cemented Ronson’s reputation in the industry. Since the release of that song, Ronson has had the opportunity to collaborate with Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Adele, and Paul McCartney.

Since Lady Gaga has announced that her sixth album is on the way, the world can only hope that she and Ronson will get to collaborate again. Gaga has had nothing but nice things to say about the producer, so he will have a role in the new era of Mother Monster’s career.
