Jeff Glor weighing his options after being offered new CBS gig
Jeff Glor has been offered a new position at CBS, Page Six is told — but the ousted “CBS Evening News” anchor is weighing whether or not to take it.
We’re told that Glor — who, just 17 months into the job, is being replaced by Norah O’Donnell — was welcome to stay on the air longer, but made the call to have Friday be his last day on the “Evening News.”
“Jeff and his agent are directly talking to [new CBS News president Susan Zirinsky] about a new role,” said an insider, “but he’s not sure he wants to stick around.”
Meanwhile, friends of Glor, or FOGs, say that he was hung out to dry by the network. “He got the job as the division was falling apart,” said a source in Glor’s camp.
“CBS This Morning’s” Charlie Rose was fired over accusations of sexual misconduct in November 2017, a month before Glor took over the “Evening” chair.
Since then, there’s been a string of scandals that brought down network boss Les Moonves and “60 Minutes” executive producer Jeff Fager (who was fired after sending a threatening text to a colleague who was covering claims made against him), and which implicated an array of other top execs in the news division.
Glor’s tenure so far has also seen the culmination of an ugly power struggle between Moonves and Viacom heir Shari Redstone. And David Rhodes, who hired Glor for “CBS Evening News,” has since been replaced as the news division’s president by Zirinksky.
Meanwhile, the source points to the fact that even on Glor’s broadcast itself, the senior staffing has been unstable. “He had one executive producer [Steve Capus] taken out after three months, and was given another who was embattled coming in the door,” said the source, referring to Mosheh Oinounou, a young exec who came from the network’s digital division and has struggled to unite the newcomers with the old guard in the newsroom.
“Jeff never even got going,” said a pal.
CBS didn’t get back to us.
